Setup

Each box should contain the following:
(1) Board
(2) Finned Heatsinks
(2) Thick purple thermal pads

Thermal Pads/Finned Heatsinks go on this portion of the board

Unscrew the screws under the heatsinks

Peel off the film on the Thick purple thermal pad (Front and Back), stick one under each heatsink - *Be sure to poke holes where the screws should go*

Screw in the heatsinks to the board

Wipe all of the thermal compound off the chips (if there is any)

Wipe all of the thermal compound off the heatsink (if there is any)

Smear (Don't Dab) the Antec Nano Diamond Thermal Compound on the chips. I've been told less is more but to full cover them.

Since the H80i's mounting kit simply doesn't work with these boards you will have to do some weird stuff unless you want to buy correct standoffs (I Found that buying just the nuts was easier)

I Labeled the following image to make it easy (This is the mounting kit that comes with the H80i)

A goes under the board just as it is
D (The Standoffs) screw into A on top of the board (Longer Side)
B goes on top of the cooler first (To create spacing to get a tight fit
C goes on top of B on the cooler
Use the #8-32 Hex Nuts to attach the cooler to D (The Standoffs)

Once you are done it should look something like this:

Screw the Fan that came with the H80i onto the Radiator with the screws (E) located in the mounting kit

Now to prepare your PSU

You only need the following cables:

2 x 6 Pin PCI-E - (Plugs into the Board)
1 x 24-pin ATX cable (Paperclip trick to turn it on - http://www.seasonic.ru/media/uploads/jump-start-3.jpg)
1x Sata Power Cable (to power the pump)

Once you have the PSU setup, plug your PCI-E's into the board (Make sure your PSU is off guys!)

Plug your the cord from the Cooler into the Sata Power Cable and into the board (Sata is under the board in C) (into the board in B)
Plug your Fan on the radiator to the board on any of the open places (I put mine in A)

Now plug one of your Port USB A Female Slot Plate Adapter (5-Pin) into the board

Plug your USB 2.0 A Male to A Male Cable into the USB A Female and into your computer (host)

Download the Latest CGMiner - http://ck.kolivas.org/apps/cgminer/

Install WinUSB if needed - http://ck.kolivas.org/apps/cgminer/zadig/

Start it up and it should run!

I highly recommend you have a large fan blowing on the board to keep it cool else it WILL throttle if you try to OC it. I use one similar to this THIS
You also should have it somewhat in the air so that the bottom side of the board can be cooled as well
I also recommend using Linux with CGMiner as it has been crashing with Windows somewhat

To OC simply make a .bat file inside your CGMiner with the following conditions (Thank you MrTeal)
Code:
cgminer.exe --hfa-fan 100 --hfa-hash-clock 720
pause

Here is my mining address with 2x Prospectors on it (Prospector1 is the worker name)
http://eligius.st/~wizkid057/newstats/userstats.php/1FscNBYzd5CqDzUVQ9YapLQNtLbswkM4NL

Here is the latest screenshot of CGMiner with the 720 OC Settings

Here are some uncropped pictures Smiley

So $2,000 plus another over $200 for the accessories for 512 GH/s?  The new 1 TH/s ants are about $3500 (probably less when the next batch goes up for sale) and don't require a long guide on how to set  them up.

Sad

Guess I could have just said to plug it into a psu, put the cooler on, plug in the usb and hash.

Short enough guide for you Tongue

Please keep all discussion related to the setup of the VMC Fast-Hash One Prospector mining board.

If you have nothing to say about the setup and instead want to voice your frustrations, or complaints in an unproductive and/or openly hostile way, there are countless unmoderated threads for you to join both in the securities and hardware subforums.

Thank you and have a nice day!

Should try putting a NH-D14 or similar on one of those boards if they use the socket 1150/1155 mounting holes like it seems they do? The closed water cooling kits are overrated and the top of the line air coolers usually outperform them so would be interesting to see how they would fare.

There's a practical limit to how much heat an air cooler can take out - sitting on about 450w going through the chip I think an air-cooler will struggle. Besides, the top of the line air coolers that *may be able to take away that level of heat will cost the same as a closed loop water cooler.

Water coolers offer much better performance.... The Dark Rock Pro 2 seems to be the best performing air cooler but its more expensive than the corsair h80i which vastly outperforms it.

It took awhile to get all of our logistics in place for orders.  We now have the products boxed a ready to ship.  All we need to do is put a FedEx address label on them and FedEx picks up at our warehouse at 4PM PDT every weekday.  So, shipping will be a lot faster now.

Download the Latest CGMiner - http://ck.kolivas.org/apps/cgminer/

Install WinUSB if needed - http://ck.kolivas.org/apps/cgminer/zadig/

Start it up and it should run!

Heya, Ken I'm stuck at this part. CGminer doesn't see the devices on Windows or Linux, just a CD emulation device. I've run WinUSB but it doesn't detect the device automatically and when I force select the device none of the 3 drivers provided causes CGminer to see these devices.

What command line options did you use to start CGminer? And how did you get it to see the devices?

I've got the linux version of CGminer compiled with HashFast support specifically but it still doesn't see the device. It does run Block Erupters and a BFL Jalapeno just fine though.

Reddit told me to find a guy called Bargraphics but I can't seem to find him on IRC right now and you're not responding to our phone calls requsting tech support.

We've got 10s of thousands of dollars of hardware here sitting idle waiting on the VMC compiled CGminer we were promised.

When you open the zadig to install WinUSB it should come up automatically with the HashFast units.

Try plugging just one in to a different USB port (Maybe the port you are using is dead?)

Regardless once you plug in the HashFast Unit and if that unit is powered on it will show up in Zadig, then you just click the button to install WinUSB on it.

Once you installed WinUSB and you open Zadig it won't show anything if you open it up again.

Download latest CGMiner and just use the following to start it

Code:
cgminer.exe -o pooladdress -u username -p password -o backuppooladdress -u username -p password --hfa-hash-clock 720 --hfa-fail-drop 5 --hfa-fan 100 --usb HFA:1,BAS:0,BF1:0,ICA:0
pause

That should be your batch file.

Change --usb HFA:1,BAS:0,BF1:0,ICA:0 "HFA:1" to however many units you have. I limit mine to one because I like to configure each one separately.

All,

I've order a prospector - I'm yet to initiate the bank transfer but will do possibly today or tomorrow.

I will make sure to tell you all about how the process goes, how quickly the prospector arrives in the UK, setup, etc - I'm also going to do a video on the setup, and a review generally, so stay tuned.

But the first step, ordering the card, worked fine. I've seen complaints that the shopping card doesn't work but it definitely seemed to work absolutely fine for me.

Stay tuned.

Physical setup wasn't a real problem. Although it was annoying having to clean all the thermal past off the entire board because it was left on when shipped so it got on the inside of the anti static plastic and therefor also on other parts of the board. Very tedious work. I feel that the IC's should be relatively clean before shipping. And each one of the prospectors I received came with a five pin to ten pin cable that I assume was supposed to be the five pin to female usb plug because it is not mentioned at all in the setup guide.

The first part of your setup guide that doesn't match what I encountered is that when I use the program zadig to switch drivers the hash fast units don't pop up automatically. I have to enable list all devices and select it. It shows up as "Combo Drive" and it originally has the driver USBSTOR (v6.2.9200.16632). I select the drive to replace it named WinUSB (v6.1.7600.16385). I then click replace driver and it says this in the log of zadig when I do this.
libwdi:info [extract_binaries] successfully extracted driver files to C:\Users\brad\usb_driver

Then I open several versions of cgminer. None see the usb device. I've tried this on WIN8 WIN7 Vista and Linux.

I'm also wondering what the point of easy suite is. When I first plugged a board into my comp it said that disk drive f: was now a cd/dvd rom. There is the iso file of an exe. called easy suit that from what I can tell is used to link PC's through USB. I've noticed not all of the options are functioning in this program. Certain seemingly critical aspects of the program are grayed out.

I have not checked all my prospector but I have checked five and they all have the same problem. I've also noticed that this easy suite program will pop up and launch even when the power supply is not on.

I have had many people try to help me with this problem and we've all come to the conclusion that I am missing some integral piece of software.......ie. VMC compiled version of cgminer or the hardware is malfunctioning in which case how can I exchange these for working ones and fast?             Please Help!

....

That is odd, usually this means that you must have installed a previous driver for something that is picking up these VMC Boards.

I'm using Windows 7
This may or may not work but go to start and type devmgmt.msc

Go down to the USBs and find which ones are your VMC Boards (replug them in and watch which USBs come up or not since you are saying it's being recognized by various names)

Once you are sure you found the USB for the VMC Board right click and uninstall.

Once it is uninstalled try to use Zadig again to install WinUSB.

Unfortunately I've never gone through your experience and when I plugged in the boards and installed WinUSB CGMiner picked them right up :/

Hope this helps, let me know if it does.

When you do this the Combo Drive does not show up in Zadig. In fact when using the default driver the device shows up as a "GO! Suite USB Device" CD drive. It's only after using Zadig that the system sees it as a USB device. (I am on Win 7)

What exact version of CGminer are you using and what are the command line options you start it with? I just want to duplicate your setup precisely.

I also have Ubuntu Linux with CGminer compiled and I'm unable to get that CG miner to address these devices as well. (Despite the fact that it sees block erupters and a Jalapeno without issue)

I'm very confused about this "Combo Drive" and "Go!Suite USB Device"

When I plug in the units currently they show up as M1 Module. CGMiner 4.2.3 in Linux picks them up without any need for a "WinUSB". CGMiner 4.2.3 in Windows needs the WinUSB driver to pick them up.

This is what Zadig looks like when I fully uninstalled the software on the M1 Modules and then try to install WinUSB

In Computer Management this is what it shows

If you figure out your issue let me know so I can add it to the guide.

Thanks!

When you open the zadig to install WinUSB it should come up automatically with the HashFast units.

Ok, I've tried 2 different units on two different computers and none of them do this. Any idea what could cause this?

Quote
Try plugging just one in to a different USB port (Maybe the port you are using is dead?)

If the port were dead the CD emulator wouldn't show up and I wouldn't be able to see things in devmanager.

Quote
Regardless once you plug in the HashFast Unit and if that unit is powered on it will show up in Zadig, then you just click the button to install WinUSB on it.

How do we confirm that the device is powered up? There is no indicator light anywhere, the fan is running and the chip gets slightly warmer, it also emits the slight odor of warm electronics.

Quote
Code:
cgminer.exe -o pooladdress -u username -p password -o backuppooladdress -u username -p password --hfa-hash-clock 720 --hfa-fail-drop 5 --hfa-fan 100 --usb HFA:1,BAS:0,BF1:0,ICA:0
pause

yeah, that's basically what we've been trying, so nothing new there.

I'm very confused about this "Combo Drive" and "Go!Suite USB Device"

So are we! You don't get an emulated CD drive when you plug your hardware in? Even if you plug it in unpowered (that would confirm for us that the units aren't powered on correctly, despite doing the jumper-paperclip thing)

My thought is that the board doesn't have the correct firmware, I see that the USB device id is different on my units. They have device id 0ae0-2209.

I'll get some screen shots of this Combo Drive thing when I get home from work later today. Just so you can see what we're talking about.

The only thing I can recommend is to right click on the USB in your Device Manager and click Uninstall. Make sure to check Uninstall Driver when that pops up

Then try to run Zadig.

ken has told me that he will send me a raspberry pi with all the correct software installed and this will confirm without a doubt if these boards are doa or not. they should plug and play and if they dont this is the for sure indicator that they are doa and will need to be replaced.

Thanks Ken .
And guys its shipped out already , Just waiting for the tracking info .

Sorry, for taking so long to ship, we had to get a lot of logistics in place.  Now, we will be able to ship a lot faster.

I have received the tracking info for my package . It will reach here by Saturday , will post the delivery and images here as soon as ill get them .

I cant believe this is happening .
After waiting for almost 20 days , I receive only 1 prospector board , and not 5 which i ordered .

actually you dont really need that five pin to female usb. its easy enough to just cut a male to male or usb extendor and make the conections your self.
if you know where the five pin usb is on the board from the outside in(right to left if its closer to you and on the right side of the board) its red white green black and the fifth black is the shielding. we made some of our own cables and got the same results as when we used a machine made five pin to female usb cable. (ie. easy suit pops up and asks us to launch an iso from disk drive f) same exact result. if u got an extra usb that supports data id try that. getting the cable seems to be difficult because i went to three retailers to get as many as i needed and came up way short. but also if u have a computer junk pile you should look at the connections on the boards and u might be able to steal a five pin to female usb connector from one of those.

So I received a raspberry pi from ken that has the hashfast system that the baby jets use. He said that my products should plug and play but I checked all of my boards with this raspberry pi and none were recognized by cgminer running on the pi. When I talked to ken he said it was hard to believe that all 14 boards were doa. And I have to agree. I actually don't think this is a hardware problem. I believe it is a firm ware problem. I am hoping to exchange these for working boards but in case there are unexpected delays I'm exploring the idea of reflashing the mother board myself. Does anyone know what device is used to read and write the firmware on these boards. And does anyone have a working prospector who lives any where near Illinois. If I can get a flasher I might also be able to just copy firmware from my accountants baby jet. I'm really running out of options. I'm hoping to just get these exchanged for working ones. Or maybe they can just reflash them for me. I still don't know what easy suite is or why its on my prospectors. I believe there has been a major manufacturing error. I'm wondering how it is these boards don't have the correct firm ware when they are supposed to be quality checked before shipping. I assume they were not just because they say they did but because the IC's were completely covered with thermal past. I will repost when I get in contact with ken and we find a solution to this problem. But please reply if anyone has any ideas.

Update [April 21 2014]   Computerjesus and Kodemadge are friends and they were talking about the same order I've updated the DOA rate to 60% accordingly.

So, of the 25 known boards ordered:

15 Delivered are dead on arrival (computerjesus/ Kodemadge)
4 didn't get delivered (emjay47)
4 delivered and working. (2 to bargraphics & 2 to 'unknown user')
1 Delivered (of 5) waiting for confirmation of working unit (emjay47)

If you're still having issues with it then go to the hash fast baby jet forum as it's the same card: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=426644.0

between the 2 of us its only 14 prospectors. but i dont have them anymore. i returned them to ken in hopes for an exchange for working ones. I wish i would have tried this sd image on the raspberry pi before i returned them but im thinking its the same image as on the pi ken gave me. these are supposed to be quality checked so when he said that these should plug and play with the pi he sent me i have to assume that they are all non functioning. he was supposed to get back to me on friday but apparently didnt get into the office until late. im expecting to hear from him on sat.

Or are you getting a refund?
From the sounds of it you're getting an exchange?

Still no signs of a single boards, Ken has told me that he is finally shipping them but he said FedEx has problems with my address so i resent him the address and i am seeing if he will ship them today, I will give you an update today  ASAP.

I don't know , I installed 3 of the 4 boards , and all the three are showing some '' ZOMBIE '' error on CGMINER .
After trying again and again , 1 of them is getting hash on at 300GH /s for sometime , then again going to ''ZOMBIE'' .

I am using a single scrypt for all my boards , which also includes my 1st delivered board , which has been showing 800GH/s on CGMINER for a week now .

Somehow , eligius is not accesible right now , i guess the webpage is down . So i can't check the stats on eligius .
But this what it is on CgMiner -

HFA 1 - 800GH/s apx. ( @ Eligius 500-600GH/s )
HFA 2 - 300GH/s apx.
HFA 3 - ZOMBIE
HFA 4 - ZOMBIE

I have not yet hooked up the last remaining card . Its late here , will do that tommorow .

Also when it goes to ZOMBIE , it shows some libusb error .
I have no idea what it is .
I am gonna go through threads tonight to look for a solution , if there is any .

Someone a bit help please .
And i am ready to offer 0.2 BTC to anyone who can fix this over Team Viewer or through any other sharing .

I don't know what is going wrong . I just want them to get hashing already .

Hey just got back from being out of town since last Monday,

I had Zombie errors too with my boards, I think it might be related to the board not getting enough power but cannot confirm because my issue kind of disappeared by itself, now I only get Zombie if one of the PSUs are not on.

To troubleshoot the boards only connect one at a time and see if they load up.

I just under clocked them again at 500 . Both my working boards are giving approx 600GH/s on cgminer .
My other 2 boards still don't seem to work .

I'll reconnect them again tomorrow after rechecking the power wiring again .

On CgMiner , It also said something '' Thermal overload tripped ! '' .
It sometimes accepts a share or two , then again goes to ''Zombie'' .

The temperature never rises on the Zombie Board , it remains at 17C then goes to Zombie .

Maybe the water cooler isn't correct set or it could even be too tight which is known to cause issue.

These are used hashfast baby jet boards that have known problems. one of which is a broken temperature sensor and a firmware problem.

If you go onto the hashfast baby jet users thread - they may be able to help you but ut would seem you have a dead on arrival card. File a warranty claim ASAP - you only have 10 days to do this.

Also it would not surprise me if bargraphics was the previous owner of this card as he has approached ken in the past to sell him his used mining equipment.

You have some serious issues man but we'll work past those.

My boards are still mining on my account and I've had no issues with them. Anytime you saw them go down it was due to a power outage or I was fiddling with the cards.

I haven't spent too much time with them really pushing for the best settings as I've been away. (Each card is fairly unique in what clock speed it hashes best at)

I don't believe I've ever approached Ken in the past to sell him my used mining equipment. These are also not "used" baby jet boards from Hashfast.

In the unlikely case you do get a grip on reality, please refrain from posting in this thread as it will simply be deleted.

Update [April 30 2014]
The refund check (Now cancelled)Sent in Feb turned up today.
postmark confirms it was sent in Feb and the check number confirms with what ken said it was on pm. So I can't blame him for this delay. The replacement check should arrive soon.

If ken could have just communicated this postage it would have avoided a whole rigmarole for the past 2 months.

In any case I unreservedly apologise to ken in light of this check arriving when all the evidence was pointing to a scam.

Different cgminer versions are bugged in how they display hashrate for products using the HF global work queue. The stats aren't reliable all the time, so you have to go by your pool speed. What frequency is HFA1 running at?
As long as you don't have too many squelched cores, your raw hashrate in GH/s (before rejects, etc) should be about 768 * speed in GHz.
IE, each chip does 768 hashes per second, so at 650MHz you'll get a max of about 500GH/s

No my PSU's were fine , I am using Corsair RM650 .
I was connecting all of them through cgminer on Windows 7 .
I installed Ubuntu on my desktop and then connected all boards , 4 of the working .
There was some issue on windows i guess .

My 1 card is showing ZOMBIE no matter what i do .
I've tried everything , reconnected everything again , still nothing .
I am going to give it one more try today , if still nothing , Ill ask ken if he can replace it or maybe send me Gold Rush instead .

Hey there emkay47,

I'm glad you got some more of the boards running.

I recommend doing the following to test the boards:

Turn the Fan Speed down to ~60-70% or simply take it off completely and let it be variable - I've received a PM from HashFast_CL that the boards may not be able to handle the fan at 100% all the time and that it was not even needed. (My Board is still running my fans at 100% and there's nothing wrong with them)

HashFast_CL also said that "Dark Errors" can occur at 725MHz clock speed and he recommends 700MHz.

I've found that each board is very picky with which clockspeed they prefer. I'm running one of mine at 700MHz and the other at 670MHz (I saw a lot of squelching dies on this one).

Once you find the right Clockspeed they pretty much run fairly well.

As for the Zombie I still have a feeling it's not the board but instead of the PSU. Test the PSU with other boards, Test the board with other PSUs.

Also Test using a different USB Connector.

So basically , My PC running Ubuntu is not able to run 5 boards all together .
I installed the 1 board which was not working earlier to another PC with windows , and it seemed to run , but that PC is too old and got shut off after 2 hours .

Yea Bar , you are right , each board seems to have different clock speed at which they work best .
I am trying to figure those out .
I read somewhere today that the best clock is 612 for some reason .
Ill try that again tomorrow .

I don't seem to understand a thing , that earlier also when i was using windows , 3 of my 5 boards showed '' ZOMBIE '' .
But when i switched to Ubuntu , 4 of the 5 boards were working .
Now , again the remaining board seems to work on a separate PC with windows .

Therefore , all of my 5 boards work , but somehow not all together .

Can someone sort this issue , cause its pointless to run 2 PC's , and 1 just for 1 board .
I would prefer to run all 5 on a single PC .

Must be nice. I got 14 doa boards. Ken told me it was hard to believe they were all doa. So he sent me a raspberry pi. He said that the boards would plug and play with the pi. They didn't. So I ask if I can return them or get a refund. He said return them and if they work I'm going to charge you a 20% restocking fee. I said you'll have to prove to me that they are working if u want me to do that. So I drove to Springfield mo to their warehouse. Ken wasn't there but i talked to two other employees. I returned the boards to them. They said ken would check the boards in two days when he got in to mo. A week went by before I finally talked to ken. He said he was sick and hasn't checked them yet but that he would check them that night. He also said if they were all doa he would replace them immediately. Haven't heard back since. It's been a month since I was shipped 14 dead boards. And I don't have a refund or replacement prospectors. Wtf!!!!!!!! Worst customer service ever. @ KEN. Money or miners. But I want them now or I'm going to the mo da and ada

I firmly believe this is a hashfast/mining program issue.

I had this same thing happen with two of my boards. Then all of a sudden they just worked and now they don't stop working.

It's extremely odd, maybe try loading each one up individually on it's own CGMiner instead of all together.

The people working might be doing the best they can but there's simply too much to do? Who knows either way it's not acceptable.

In the mean time I highly recommend getting used to compiling and installing CGMiner or BFGMiner on linux before you get a replacement (If you do not get a refund). It will save you a lot of time (Ask Vince Tongue)

What version of CGMiner are you guys using? And are you setting any of the following...

--hfa-hash-clock
--hfa-fail-drop
--hfa-fan
--hfa-noshed
--hfa-temp-overheat
--hfa-temp-target

Also, do you happen to know what version of the firmware you are running?

Hi all, if anyone can help me i will be greatly appreciated
2 out of my 5 prospectors that i ordered are working, but my computer can't detect the other 3, i have used the device manager but it doesn't show the 3 boards, and i have tried using zadig and cgminer to try and detect them but no my computer still doesn't register them. Any help would be great
Thanks
P.S. my other 2 boards are hashing at a combined effort of 980 ghs which is at a 729 mhz, the first one is at 515ghs while the other is at 480ghs, if you guys can help me boost the second card up, that would also be great

Lol. I tried them backwards too. Just to cover all basis. I told ken I was gonna have him shut down. It took me about a month but Vmc has been ordered to halt operations in large part because of me. Now ken, if you want to get back to business as usual you will refund me all of my money. I will drop my complaint and tell the Secretary of State to drop their investigation. If not, more problems will come your way, I promise.
