Quote: "But the Bitcoin Foundation has agreed to work with the Gates Foundation to try improve methods of stopping child exploitation, which is welcome."

Does anybody know, what these methods are the Bitcoin foundation is improving in order to stop the increasing number of transactions done in the context of distributing child pornography? What actions did they take so far? To my (limited) knowledge, any action that would prevent the current widespread usage of Bitcoin for purchases of child pornography would also directly undermine the anonymity of Bitcoin which is often seen as the one big advantage over common online payment systems. Does anybody have more information on this matter?

BTC doesn't have anonymity (by default), so the association with "really bad things" is often totally wrong.

Thank you. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to find that much on the topic of child pornography and bitcoin on the bitcoinfoundation website. There are one or two discussions in the forum.

In the thread https://bitcoinfoundation.org/forum/index.php?/topic/185-the-virtual-economy-potential-perplexities-and-promises/ Joel Dalais suggests to set up a task force that in cooperation with Bitcoin exchanges would support authorities in tracking down the real persons behind a transaction related to child porn.

Was this ever implemented? Wouldn't a shared user database between the different exchanges expose an even bigger security risk than just trusting one exchange with your personal details which in some cases also include passport or idcard copies?

Bad things are done with money, not that money is a a bad thing.  It just means that if the money is successful enough it will be used for what it is, as a tool.  Good or bad intentions.  Lets not forget that usd has been historically used for shady dealings.  Bitcoin will also be used for such dealings.  There is no viable way to stop 100% of the bad actors from using crypto or fiat to do bad things.

Well that could be spun in different ways.  If its bad then general populace will stay away from it and not give it value.  If its bad and may bring much harm, then you may find bad people may pay a decent amount for this tool.

So from those facts I come to the conclusion that very few people take that site seriously enough to pledge funds and no one takes it seriously enough to make a prediction come true. i.e. it doesn't disprove the statement that assassination markets are an urban legend.

I think you are right that there is little interest in this compared to how much talk there is. However, the system does work in theory and it will only take one hit to draw serious regulation. It could easily lead to a total tracking of all coins; even an outright ban. Almost nobody wants that now.
