One way that future robots could conquer the world is by violence. But that seems both inefficient and uncreative. Allow me to suggest some smarter ways for robots to do their conquering.

I start by imagining what happens when the first computer achieves what is called The Singularity. That's the moment the computer can program itself faster than humans can program it. Soon after that point, futurists say, you would see the computer rapidly evolve to have super intelligence and perhaps something that looks like free will. ...

...The computer doesn't need to be in a hurry, so it introduces Bitcoin and waits for it to evolve into the primary currency of the planet....

..
I don't believe the story I'm weaving. But I do think that the first signs of a benevolent post-singularity computer would include the following:

A mysterious digital currency with no known author.
    Unusually well-behaved financial markets.
Slow and steady improvement in the economy.
Slow news days (lots of them)
    Fewer military flare-ups
    Stuxnet virus (unknown authors again)
Legalization of Marijuana (to keep humans happy)

I'm not saying the first post-singularity computer is already here. I'm just saying it looks that way.

Satoshi was a robot?
At least Scott Adams has an active imagination.

Are you thinking Terminator style robots?

I think the end will come with nano robots.  Too small to see - automatically replicating themselves and consuming all resources.   They would kill humanity (and everything else) even without meaning to.

I need to learn more about nano-tech.
Sounds like we have a better chance against the Terminators?

Scariest thing about it is the nano technology already exists, and you don't need future AI to program something to rebuild itself.

This doomsday scenario could take place in a couple years by a terrorist group, or even by a good guy with a simple programming mistake.

There would be no where to run - no where to hide.

Quote
Dear Diary: My crush on Nanotech? So over! All he talks about is how great he is: An engineering system that constructs machines, robots and computers at the molecular level, one atom at a time, and with the ease of a photocopier. What did he promise me? What didn’t he promise is more like it! “Babygirl, I’ll make human organs heterostatic, put a spaceship in every garage and slide a supercomputer into every pocket. Heck, I’ll even end world hunger.”
“You had me at heterostatic,” I gushed. I’m such an idiot.

Now things are getting out of control. My boyfriend’s particles are toxic and spreading; they turn every element they meet into versions of themselves, leaving behind a “gray goo.” So gross! Food is scarce, terrorists have the know-how, and people are saying the world is ending. This might be my last entry before the biosphere is consumed.
TTYL... I hope!

Nano robots would seem likely to destroy mankind more than the singularity would.

But I think rather than robots taking over killing mankind, it will eventually be more like we simply become absorbed through a combination of natural evolution + manmade/computer evolution. So 10K years from now man may not exist as we know it now, but it's not like Bender went on a rampage and killed all the humans. Man simply will be a mix of tech and organic evolution.

i dont think we will have much of a choice in the future, there will be a day when if u dont have a microchip in your brain wired to a centralized computer commanding your thoughts, u will be singled out and ostracized..

I don't think that robots can takeover without a human mastermind controlling them. It will be the human mastermind who is issuing the orders. No I Robot like situations are likely to arise.

I agree with bryant..

since artificial intelligence is only data humans typed into, only uprising we could see would be something like the attack of no-pilot aircrafts Cheesy

The movie I Robot was "just OK".
The book is supposed to be really good. I need to take time to read it someday.
Has anyone here read the book I Robot?

there are two main problems before robots can take over :
1-Inteligence
2-Energy

For intelligence, I think that will come with the Quantum computing
And energy like wise (if we imagine we are talking about cyborg like robots) is coming with nanotubes (for battery tech) and what's not and in the long term nuclear fusion. if the Robots can be a giant machine this is not an issue as it can have chemical power engines such as combustion engine to produce the necessary power being it electric, hydraulic or mechanical

Yea I'd say nano bots are a legitimate cause for concern.  I recently seen a vid discussing governments making bugs spy on others buy controlling their flight and using tiny cameras.  Also add in the advancement of the robotic technology and quantum computing I could imagine such a thing as nano bots but I'd suspect they would only be able to do limited tasks in my lifetime.

there is worst than that, implementing chips on bugs and controlling them (if this is left without constraint and legislation bugs are going to be only the begining, I see that implemented in animals next and then to humans )
