Who will be the first person to die for bitcoin, and how?

The question isn't who or how but whether he'll be drinking a desert-like coffee beverage when it happens.

He's too fat to die by gunfire. The bullets would just bounce off. Was the popping sound the buttons on his pants popping off from too many Starbucks beverages? Fat people are more prone to heart attack so he might be the first Bitcoin death.

The one that will randomly get 100k bitcoins to his wallet, he would probably die just the moment when he realises it.  Lips sealed

Mark Kerpeles might not be the first one, but his death is almost certain. From the data obtained by rpietila from Mt Gox, a total of 5 people lost more than BTC10,000 (i.e $5,000,000+). I really hope that anyone among those five will finish Kerpeles off. Kerpeles might be able to escape the law using his secret stash... but the natural justice will catch up with him soon.

I think even though his stomach / torso would probably absorb the impacts his face is still very shootable.

Mark Kerpeles.

Sent way too many people to the gutter to make it out alive.

I was thinking that... What about who will be the first to be tortured out of their private keys and/or pass phrases?

didn't the founder of 51Lk R0@d pay off someone $150k in BTC to get rid of a person that threatened to reveal vendor and customer addresses?  the hitman sent a pic as proof of completion, although no bodies were ever found.

He tried to, but the hitman was actually the feds and they supposedly sent a fake pic of completion.

BTW, they are making a Hollywood movie about the SR! I can't wait for it to come out!

Your sisters name wouldn't happen to be Roxicet would it? Don't buy any of those things with Bitcoin or you'll end up the first to die. lol

It's not clear whether she died because of anything related to bitcoin though. Her cryptic 'final message' would seem to suggest that she succumbed to the stresses of running a business.

what about people dying in defense of bitcoin, or standing up for their rights in relation to BTC ? Seems a while off before anything like this can happen.

There is no way of knowing that she wrote that message/willingly wrote it.
I doubt that she killed herself.

What reason would anyone else have had to want her dead? I wasn't aware of any particular controversy surrounding her or her company but then again I think the first time I heard of it was when that story first broke the news.

well the coroner confirmed suicide, so that answers all the tin foil hat answers to her death.

but there are other cases where people have been assaulted due to people wanting their crypto wealth. notably the batcoin creator:
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=400753.msg6298413#msg6298413
summary:
assaulted him and went straight for his PC trying to get at his hoard

I was reading yesterday that karpeles kept his cold storage on paper wallets at home and that he didn't give any other employees access to them. It's possible that someone broke into his house and stole those wallets. This guy spent the last few months before bankruptcy planning a bitcoin cafe and coming up with his own recipes for pastries. Just doesn't seem like he stole those coins, he was caught completely off guard. I'd be investigating those employees who knew where he stored his paper wallets.
