I will be there (hello everybody) in my professional capacity on a press ticket. The hotel where some of the talks are taking place is sold out, so I have to find somewhere near the airport, if anyone can recommend somewhere cheapish which will make it easy to get there and back then please let me know.
What is the cost for a night at that hotel?

There are several different types of Bitcoin clients. The most secure are full nodes like Bitcoin Core, but full nodes are more resource-heavy, and they must do a lengthy initial syncing process. As a result, lightweight clients with somewhat less security are commonly used.

It's probably worth pointing out that the conference isn't designed to be for people who are just interested in Bitcoin. It's for people who are balls deep in Bitcoin and are going to be driving the currency forward.

To be able to meet and exchange ideas with such a group of people, €400 is a bargain.

Agreed. Steep price and clearly not intended to be accessible for all (as good as that would be). There are other conferences that are better placed to do that. But for meeting key people in the industry (any industry to be honest) within a short time when everyone has such crazy schedules, you expect to pay top dollar. Serious money but you're effectively paying to share other people's time. It's your call whether you value that opportunity or not. At least conferences aren't like they used to be a few years ago, when the information was never shared freely online afterwards and/or in real-time.

The conference is just 5 min away from Amsterdam city centre, there are plenty of hotels there. The airport is 15 min drive to to city/conference. Check agoda.com for hotels

I think Microsoft are a little bit bigger than Bitcoin at the moment. 400 still seems ridiculous. It prices most people out of attending.
The conference is really targeting smart people with living careers, not deadbeat losers like you and I.

Remember Aaron Swartz, a 26 year old computer scientist who died defending the free flow of information.

It requires you to: "use an email from an established academic institution (university or higher education college) and provide a valid student ID card at registration.". So it depends on what university you are studying Bitcoin Cheesy Cheesy

NXT is going to be there, as a contributing sponsor with a booth.  Dont ask what the booth cost.....

This is the 'official' Bitcoin Foundation conference and is probably going to be THE Bitcoin-related conference this year, certainly in Europe, maybe in the world.
Have a look at the list of speakers:
http://bitcoin2014.com/

If any of you guys/girls/whatevers are planning on attending, get your hotel/accomodation sorted out now. I'm on the search for hotel rooms for our guys, but much of A'dams hotel spaces are already booked solid for the weekend.

Here's the NXT thread for our internal conference organisation:
https://nxtforum.org/nxt-promotion/bitcoin2014-btc-foundation-conference-amsterdam-may-15-17/

If people want to get in for free/cheap, the only workable options will be to be a student or to get press accreditation. There was the possibility to get free registration by working for the BTC Foundation as a volunteer, but all the volunteer spots are now, afaik, filled.

If anyone needs some help with conference/Amsterdam related stuff, feel free to drop me a PM, or ask here.
I'm pretty busy at the moment, and I'm giving NXT (obviously) priority but I might be able to help out......

Just got the LAST seat in the morning flight the 15th from my local airport to Amsterdam  Grin
So, I'll be there and talk about Mycelium and Local Trader for 3 days or until I am thrown out, whichever comes first.

I actually think that mobile p2p trading is bound to be a hit at a conference packed with bitcoiners. "Attending a boring talk? See if someone wants to make a deal on your celly"

Mycelium let's you hold your private keys private.

Amsterdam is not cheap, €1600 per month isn't exceptional.

On the costs for the conference: yes, it is bloody expensive but have you seen the list of speakers ?
Pretty much every heavy hitter in the BTC world is going to be there, and if you want to have face-to-face access to these people, it's going to cost money one way or another.
And I know, from talking to the organising team, that registrations are selling like cold beer on a hot day......

It's expensive but that's how it goes when there is more demand. Bitcoin is bigger than ever and this is the #1 conference pretty much. There needs to be a high price point in order for the venue to be able to accommodate everybody.

I'm going there of course and we're actually coming with most of our team. We are sponsoring the event with BTC Store and we have a booth there.

Looking forward to meeting new and old friends.

It is expensive. But, I figured it would be worth attending.

Planning to launch Zimbabwecoin in the future. Focused on building a community around it now.

It is 1525 including tv and internet. On top of this i must also pay water, gas, electric, rubbish collection, health insurance oh and eat. Amsterdam in an expensive city.

In all honesty i do live in a nice apartment as i mostly work from home so i like it to be nice and not a Amsterdam box.
