I have always done my best only to live within my means and always save up before buying anything, as a result I have zero debt but on the downside I don't really own anything of value. I live in a rented flat since saving up for a house and paying for it in one go is neither practical nor something you do in a few years time.

I'm 30 years old now and I have only recently started saving for my retirement, but god I wish I started doing so 10 years ago. I live in a country with a large welfare system and high taxes so in theory I should be able to survive without doing so, but I have a feeling that when I get old there won't be enough money in the system to go around anymore. My savings are in PMs and now bitcoin, and I hide it as good as I can from everyone, including the government as they always punish those who do the "right" things with high taxes.

When I look around I see people at my age owning multiple cars and houses, and even though I know they payed for it with money they don't have it still makes me feel poor and to some extent a bit sad.

So, how is your personal debt and savings ratio and how does it affect your life?

OP, your problem is very common and very obvious; you don't make enough money. Seeing as you live in a socialist country, you can either 1) Kick back and let the nanny state take care of you or 2) Find a way to make more money. There's no "trick" to solve this problem for you.

My situation is very similar to yours. I don't have much, but I don't have any debt. What's different is that I don't feel poor or sad to any extent. Instead i'm proud to be free of debt.

I think you're doing the best thing you can do in your situation. Don't be fooled by the showing-off of others: They're the ones who will be poor in the future. If your home is financed or there is a mortgage on it, you simply don't own it, period. Ask those who got evicted.

When it comes to financial decisions the majority only rarely does the right thing. So don't feel pressured to do the same just to impress others. Instead be proud that you're not a slave to the banks. I'm sure that 20 years from now when you look around again you will be glad having chosen the prudent way.

Savings my friends are only way how to survive in this ficking world ... (if you are not company)

If you want new tv for 200 usd, you have to have savings 1000 or more (5x)
If you want new car for 20 000 usd you have to have savins 100 000 or more (5x)

If you have savings 100 000 usd do not buy new car but invest Tongue

But if you wont invest and have 100 000 usd and want new car .. you wont get one, because your girlfriend wants new S4, holiday, new nb .. but its ok because we love our girlfriends so we buy them such stuff Wink

Thats my ideology  Roll Eyes Roll Eyes

I`m actually in 50% debt ratio. No savings, because even though I think its a smart move for most, its not for me.

This obviously based on living expense, rent etc.

But I dont live in a big crazy life style, I wear clothes that are 1 year old or more.

Never been in debt and never intend to. Have a nice little bit in savings too but hopefully I'll surpass that in BTC by the end of the year  Grin.

No matter how much I try and fight it my personal debt just keep going up even though it really isn't that much in the scheme of things.  I don't like seeing myself in debt at all, it stresses me out.
As for savings that is non existent at the moment and very embarrassing.  to not have anything to fall back on in a time of crisis or just to be able to get something I want for personal pleasure.

I commend you for living within your means but I don't think it is wrong if you decide to splurge on a very rare occasion at a treat to yourself especially if it makes you happy.
