The sad part is, it doesn't have to get to that point, if people start doing something about it. And it doesn't even have to be much at this point in time...

Like what? Call your congressman? Write a letter? Vote? If these things could effect anything, they'd be banned.

Best thing to do is to withdraw from the system to every extent that's possible. a lot of people are fed up with the surveillance/ police state that the USA has become.

Not very many people care enough to actually protest though.

I can guarantee that if the US has major widespread protests like in the arab spring, they would be dealt with extremely harshly and with excessive force.

The US has spent billions turning local police into military units.

Keene, NH actually had people get out to protest the excessive military equipment, but I'm not aware of many other protests:

These people are probably targeted by NSA right now, bye bye their online privacy and anonymity. Sad

Absolutely. US bank account agreements have been quietly changed over the years, just as "safe" deposit box agreements have. Either can be seized at any time. Sadly, most still believe their wealth is safe in banks.

Okay, many of us hate the countries we live in. I hate the U.S.

But there's far worse countries out there, way worse than America. Yeah, the Government is stupid beyond repair, but would you rather be in a Communist Gov or a Kratocracy?

They're NOT stupid. They want you to believe they're stupid. Barry and his numerous speech writers and fact checkers don't "accidentally" forget words when he (mis)quotes the Gettysburg address on international television. US politicians aren't "confused" when they talk about preserving their "democracy". They KNOW the US is not now, nor has it ever been a democracy. They're actors, playing their roles. Keeping the masses bickering with each other and hiding the fact that the US has become a decaying fascist shithole...an oligarchy.

The USD is the world reserve currency(for now). The US's principle export is inflation. The US has done well since ending bretton woods by looting the rest of the world...that time is ending. Sure the US HAD a manufacturing base that was second to none, but no longer. That manufacturing base has been gutted by greedy corporations and their bought and paid for politicians. One need look no further than the once great, but now bankrupt, city of Detroit, which now looks like a bombed out city in Germany during WWII. America has been living high on the hog off the labor of the rest of the world for decades, but a rude awakening is coming.

People will do something about it when the prospect of being murdered by armed thugs seems like a better deal than their day to day lives (i.e. going to work or whatever).

The sad part is, it doesn't have to get to that point, if people start doing something about it. And it doesn't even have to be much at this point in time...

Like what? Call your congressman? Write a letter? Vote? If these things could effect anything, they'd be banned.

So, we agree up to a point, right? You're already providing a few things that people can do, starting immediately: "Stop being good consumers. Stop borrowing and living beyond your means. Stop using electronic credit dollars and use physical dollars. Keep your currency away from banks". I would say however that credit unions would perhaps be a good replacement for banks at this time; no need to keep your money under the mattress.  Tongue

But I disagree that the rest is fundamentally ineffective; it tends to take a lot of organizing to get it to work, probably more than most people are willing to (and given the situation of a lot of people, even able to) put up with, but it's possible. There's only so much influence big money has on government, and only so much the mainstream media is able to brainwash.

So, take for example what the guys from The Young Turks are trying to do: they created Wolf PAK (http://www.wolf-pac.com/) with the idea of passing an amendment to the constitution to get money out of politics. I think this is the most recent update from them: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fZfIShjcA9w. Why not give it a go?

it depends really where you are looking and what are the requirement you are looking at, and in terms of the western world the US of A, is not the best place to be.....at least from a social, educational, healthcare, democracy point of view, I'm not saying that other places are perfect, just saying that US people should aim for better, and stop comparing them self to other poor countries that were exploited till recently by imperialism and still suffering from dictatorship while their resources are being stollen by foreign companies and the puppets set on power

Is that the insatiable optimism of youth I detect? Cheesy

I agree that community credit unions are marginally better options than large corporate banks, but NCUA deposit insurance is every bit the fraud that FDIC is. Storing your wealth in these institutions just limits your access to it. None of them pay anywhere near the rate of inflation in interest payments and ALL of them employ fractional reserve lending(counterfeiting) to increase the "money" supply. I suggest you store the bulk of your wealth in something NOT denominated in fiat. Bitcoin and/or precious metals spring immediately to mind. The portion you do keep in fiat for convenience should be stored in a safe...preferably hidden and defended by Pb.

Any real "movements" that gain any political traction are immediately assailed by the government's propaganda machine(MSM) and/or co-opted by the single political party masquerading as two parties that dominates US politics. I'm sorry, I wish there was hope as well, but there is no hope of real change unless and until the system is shaken to it's foundation. The most likely way I see that happening is via economic collapse, which is why I'm doing my small part to push us in that direction.

we don't need a Govt. ruling the people.  we can make our own rules.  lets rise up and defeat the evil empire.
Careful our fantastic government will dub you a terrorist and hide you in the deepest cell in the country with talk like that.

They have jailed people for less..... :S

How do you rise up when everything you say is seen by the people you would rise up against and any notion of doing something will land you in prison for life?

It's over.

The USD is a debt instrument. In order for it to continue enslaving it needs debt greater than previous debt. The way to bring down the beast is for large numbers of people to withdraw their support. As debts are extinguished credit dollars are destroyed. If this continues for long and there are no new debts(or fewer new debts) created, then we get an imbalance and deflation is the result. This is why TPTB keep pushing seemingly nonsensical programs like cash for clunkers, federal student loan takeovers, HUD, fannie mae, freddie mac, etc. They're trying to keep people borrowing and spending beyond their means.
