From the blog announcement:

Because your login information is stored locally, your funds are technically in cold storage once you’ve logged out of the client.

This statement from Ripple strikes me as odd.  Does logging out of the client on an otherwise networked, and possibly malware-infested computer, qualify as "cold storage" these days?   I wouldn't think so.

I'm no expert, but I thought your password and key were all you needed for Ripple cold storage. However, the new client makes a nice alternative to having to use a browser to log in. I'll give it a go and see what it's like.
