Type Bitcoin symbol ฿ with your keyboard! (Windows - US Keyboards)

I've created a new keyboard layout for Windows (Win2000-Win7) with the Microsoft Keyboard Layout Creator (link in case you want to do it yourself). This is the standard US keyboard layout, except when you press CTRL or RIGHT-ALT, you get some new options:



We know Shift+4 is the dollar sign; now CTRL+4 or RightAlt+4 gets you ฿! CTRL+NumPad "." is also ฿ (some programs like Firefox reserve CTRL+Numbers). In addition, the other currency symbols are available as shown above.

Install:
1. Simply run the setup.exe after unzipping, you'll get a success message when it is done:


2. In the Control Panel, Choose "Region and Language" (Vista and Win7, shown) or "Regional and Language Options" (WinXP). Press "Change Keyboards" on the "Keyboards and Languages" tab (Vista and Win7), or "Details" on the "Languages" tab (XP):


3. In the "Default Input Language" dropdown list, you will have a new option! Select it and press "OK".


4. You are now ready to type ฿! You do not need to restart Windows, but any applications will need to be re-opened for your new keyboard combos to work.


PS. You should never download and install programs on your computer with Bitcoin, but you can trust me, really!

It tells me to check whether the file is still there and accessable, then try again to install,... its still there and accessable, but the set up wont continue.

I downloaded both (64 bit and 32 bit) versions, none works. The 32 bit version is not for me and the 64 bit version displays above mentioned error.

I fixed the download link file (re-created the keyboard layout actually), you'll need to unzip and run setup.exe, which will install on any windows platform.

You mean you want to type "μ", a lower-case Greek letter "M"? There's already a keyboard layout for that.



If you want to add that single character, or even add the whole Greek keyboard when you press ctrl or alt, you can do that with the keyboard creator yourself.

why not? at least Ƀ doesn't hijack an existing currency symbol. also, you can just enable hex unicode insert and do alt + 2 4 3

Hmm, OK didnt see that they made their own symbol available for use. I still dont like the design though, but instead of nope I'd say "maybe" now.

Boom! Thank you! haha 6 years later and the thread hasn't expanded much... Very helpful, this will become a common keystroke before the end of the decade!
