Code:
sierrachartfeed-0.4.exe
Loading data file c:/SierraChart/data/mtgoxUSD.scid
Downloading historical data
Traceback (most recent call last):
  File "sierrachartfeed.py", line 132, in <module>
  File "sierrachartfeed.py", line 60, in __init__
Exception: Historical download failed: HTTP Error 503: Service Temporarily Unavailable, use -y to disable history

 Undecided
I'm getting a similar error, except for:
Code:
Exception: Historical download failed: year out of range, use -y to disable history

-- Smoov

edit: I only get this with MtGox tracking... TradeHill's historical download goes just fine.

Hey guys, I am trying to get this set up.  I have sierrachartfeed-0.4 and Sierra Chart installed.  Whenever I try to run sierrachartfeed-0.4 it just instantly closes on me.  I am running under Win7 with administrator privileges.  I have also tried changing the compatibility settings to XP SP3 with no results.

What am i missing here?

Can you please run sierrachartfeed from terminal window? It will print some error message which can help me track the problem...

when i pick dly i get a black screen is there any way to solve this ??

Solution: Don't pick dly. Use only Intraday charts and select .scid files.

About other errors  - you can freely ignore all errors about unknown symbols and data feeds. It's because sierrachartfeed does not use "official" feeds from forex/commodity markets.

I was thinking about it, but AFAIK Sierrachart's scid file don't provide data structures for storing bids and asks separated. There's only bid/ask volume which isn't enough...

well i found out that i was originally double clicking it...found out your supposed to run it through the cmd prompt.  all it takes is to type the file name, yes?
i renamed the feed to make it easier it is the .4 version

does sierrachart HAVE to be installed in the root of C:/?

EDIT: seems like it does indeed need to be in the root of C:/  working!

You didn't installed Sierrachart to default directory, did you? Please add "-d" option and specify the full path to "data" directory of your sierrachart installation, for example
Code:
sierrachartfeed.exe -d "c:/Program Files/Sierrachart/data/"

You obviously didn't followed the instructions correctly, because you need to open *intraday* chart, not daily chart Smiley.

Ok, I'm still getting "Exception: Historical download failed: year out of range, use -y to disable history", and disabling history is all kinds of un-useful.

Has anyone come up with a work-around to get the MtGox historical data back?

Looks like a bug in bitcoincharts.com feed... I'll ask there.

it is a commercial software, once the trial period is over you can still use some basic function and charting too with slush plugin.

Thanks for making this clear. Yes, this mtgox plugin and realtime charting work even with expired trial of SierraChart.

very cool.  was worried about that.  i will use it!

im getting a disconnection notice saying i need to pay.  and the prices are absolutely redic!  something like $45 for 2 months wtf!

Message from Sierrachart? You can ignore it, sierrachart bridge runs even on unpaid SC version. Otherwise you're doing something wrong.

Also keep in mind that SierraChart is charting software for stock and commodity markets. 45$ for two months is really wtf - because it's the cheapest professioinal platform with trading data I've ever seen ;-).

Hey Slush,

Thanks for creating this! I've using this a lot. I have ran into a few problems with it, though. If I see a big move on Mtgoxlive I usually open sierra chart to provide me accurate realtime data by using this wonderful tool. The problem is that when I open it after a big move, it downloads the historical data, but that data is always lagging behind, so the big move isn't downloaded. Then it opens the streaming socket and receives data from after the big move, which leaves strange gaps between different bars in sierra chart. The same behavior can be observed if my laptop happens to go to sleep while your application is open and then wakes up. There's a lot of missing data. I know your program is open source, but I have zero experience with python, so I'm not sure if I could program it myself, although it should be quite simple. I also don't have any experience with compiling python applications.

Anyway, here's some pseudo code that wouldn't prevent the "bugs" from happening, but it would fix it upon opening the application again at a later time.

If (mtgoxUSD.scid.bak exists){
   copy mtgoxUSD.scid.bak to mtgoxUSD.scid;
}
else{
   create mtgoxUSD.scid;
}
downloadhistoricaldata();
copy mtgoxUSD.scid to mtgoxUSD.scid.bak;
openstreamingsocket();

So basically, it downloads the historical data, backups the file and starts writing whatever that's added by the streamingsocket to the original file. Once you use the program again, it copies the backup over the original, effectively discarding any data that has come through the streamingsocket, and downloads the historical data again until it's up to date. So any data that's missed because the computer/laptop went to sleep while the application was open, or whatever data that's missed due to the historical data lagging will be added upon running the application again. This would prevent a messed up mtgoxUSD.scid which requires a download from the start. Let me know what you think! If you have any pointers on how to get started with Python, I could probably implement this myself.

Thanks for reading, and thank you very much again for this wonderful application of yours!

You're right, delay on historical feed is annoying. I'm "fixing" it by running sierrachart bridge everytime and opening sierrachart only when needed. Bridge itself has very small footprint. But you're right that some solution to re-download missing data would be great. I'll think about it little more.
