Trying to find this info is proving rather difficult. I have a mental note that at least 5 exchanges have gone bust, frozen users funds, or forced them to take a haircut this year alone.

So my question is can anyone name any exchanges or finance services that have lost users coins.

So far off the top of my head I have:

  • mtgox.com
  • vircurex.com

Many hacks/losses are listed in this thread: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=576337
... but not only exchanges.

Easier to find those that haven't. Look at trilema for details of such 'losses'.

I imagine most of them have been attacked and incurred losses. I doubt they would admit this though as its likely bad for business  Grin

I would also add any "web wallet" or service that stores your funds or facilitates transactions by relinquishing your private keys.  inputs.io comes to mind.
