Thanks Febo, I'll try that next.

In the meantime, I found simplewallet.log. Might help with debugging. These are the last few rows:

Code:
2014-May-26 14:30:23.757439 bitmonero wallet v0.8.8.1.1(0.1-g3b887de)
2014-May-26 14:30:42.909534 ERROR ..\..\src\wallet\wallet2.cpp:443 boost::filesystem::exists(m_wallet_file, ignored_ec). THROW EXCEPTION: error::file_exists
2014-May-26 14:30:42.909534 ..\..\src\wallet\wallet2.cpp:443:struct tools::error::file_error_base<0>: file already exists "C:\Program"
2014-May-26 14:30:42.910534 Error: failed to generate new wallet: file already exists "C:\Program"
2014-May-26 14:30:42.910534 ERROR ..\..\src\simplewallet\simplewallet.cpp:301 account creation failed
2014-May-26 14:30:42.910534 ERROR ..\..\src\simplewallet\simplewallet.cpp:1053 Failed to initialize wallet

A couple observations:
  • ..\..\ normally references two directories up, but that would be C:\ in this case... not really sure what that is referring to
  • C:\Program is cut off - I extraced everything to C:\Program Files\Monero\. Does this mean the software can't handle blank spaces in files or folders? Should I move it somewhere else? #feelslikedos

^ After much trial and error, I managed to get it to work. It looks like my assumption was correct and the space character in the "Program Files" folder name was the culprit.

When it was still in Program Files, no wallet files were ever created. I now moved/unzipped all files to another folder without any spaces in its name, and voilà, it works great!

If this is a bug and this is not the right place to post it, please let me know where to report it, I'd be happy to do so.

superresistant, maybe you'll want to add this information to the OP for the time being too? Could help save a few folks some headaches.

OK, i found where was mistake. The first post should be edited with new pool-addr=monero.crypto-pool.fr:1111
Another question is inside vallet there is "solo mining" and "pool mining" with also this pool address, cant be this done from there? or why is that there?
Thx for your answers in advance, sure many are to come.

There is two possible protocol for pool mining :

http protocol
monero.crypto-pool.fr:1111
or
stratum protocol
stratum+tcp://monero.crypto-pool.fr:6666

The best is stratum but if it doesn't work, you can use the http protocol.

I mean error 18081

The client didn't synchronise or is not running.
You need to download the full blockchain before using the wallet and the application need to be running in the background (you need to be connected).
Try reopening the wallet. Wait 10 min before doing anything when the client is synchronised.

Thanks for the information ! I could not understand why it didn't work.
I'll update now.

Glad I could help!

On a different note, is it normal for the balance to remain unconfirmed for very long? After the first transaction I sent to the wallet, it was unconfirmed (and Balance=0), as expected. Then after maybe 10-20 minutes the Balance updated to the right amount as well, but "unconfirmed" didn't go back to 0... it's still showing the same amount as the Balance. It has been a couple hours now.

Should "unconfirmed" not go back to 0 at some point?

what kind of hash rates are you guys getting? list CPU model, speed, etc if you can.
thank you

This list is based on Bytecoin but it use a similar technology so the differences should be the same :

I don't know why it doesn't refresh after 10min. It should get back to normal after a time but if it doesn't, I suggest to re-open.

Maybe the confirmation take longer than what we think.

The path should not have space in it : Scar Face (space between Scar and Face)

Try the old tutorial :

C - HOW TO CHECK WALLET

To check your wallet, open bitmonerod.exe

Wait for bitmonerod to sync.
You'll notice that it can take hours so if you don't want to wait, exit bitmonerod and download the blockchain here :
https://mega.co.nz/#!LZBz0Agb!DSx6UV1FzVoQypseSGLRaEoBbrKehWZaSRqoNZnnGVQ

Extract the blockchain in the folder
C:\Users\you\AppData\Roaming\bitmonero (Replace you by the name of the current user on windows)

Keep bitmonerod open and open simplewallet.exe

Type refresh to refresh the wallet

Type balance to check your balance after a refresh

Type save to save your balance

Type exit to save and exit simplewallet

If you don't wait for bitmonerod to sync, simplewallet will tell you Error: refresh failed: daemon is busy. Please try later. Blocks received: 0

Always type exit to leave bitmonerod or the blockchain will not be saved.

You should see the blockchain download progression if it is not complete and then you should be able to use the wallet (exept the log tab).

Do you have a firewall ? If one port is blocked then the app cannot work and stay stuck.

I'd really appreciate this but there seems to be a problem with the link: "The file you are trying to download is no longer available."

So stratum protocol, can also work with simpleminer?

Batch file command line should be?:
C:\Monero\simpleminer.exe --pool-addr=stratum+tcp://monero.crypto-pool.fr:6666 --login=47mqJC8hHQ65TmSiDnKN9scsqtKzTwQLLLroTboyKtHsR69m6BGYsA1ZkeTWguqzr59tbnJ3GrKjphSWUdQ8XW8kRf8bYmJ --pass x

or i typed pool address wrong?

Another question is, about threads. I think my computer have 4 chores. i5-2320 @ 3.00GHz  So i should run batch file 4 times, for best performance, to have mining running in 4 cmd windows?

I never tried stratum on simpleminer. Just try.
It seems correct.

Yes 4 cmd windows for 4 threads.

https://github.com/LucasJones/cpuminer-multi/releases/download/v1.0.3/cpuminer-multi.zip

Should be cpuminer better then simpleminer? They say you can use stratum and is for 64bit win.
