Make sure you back up your wallet regularly! Unlike a bank account, nobody can help you if you lose access to your BTC.

Cryptsy as the largest is probably the best in the sense of most liquidity - most trades, closest spreads - things like that. However, if you are only trading a few coins, rather than trading a lot, that may not matter that much to you. The only complaint I routinely see about cryptsy is that their deposits and withdrawals can take a long time. Not always, and not everyone, but that seems to be the biggest complaint about them.
If you don't want to go with them poloniex and coinedup are alternate exchanges that trade doge. There is also vircurex but given some of their recent issues I can't recommend them.
Good Luck!

I used to trade doges with Cryptsy, it has the highest volume but there are also other nice exchanges like Poloniex or bter which are a great deal.

the easiest and almost fastest way to trade doge is on bter.com.
I use bter.com just for a few coins (NXT, Doge, PPC) but I like very much their concept.

If you choose Cryptsy, be sure to check that you're actually sending to a Dogecoin address, not to e.g. a Digitalcoin address like me. Waiting for 3 months for them to resolve this now... https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=560046

Doesn't they give you the deposit address to send your coins? And how can one distinguish between Doge and Digital Coin addresses?

Poloniex is showing ssl error: And not sure about Bter I read cpl of posts like this: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=389591.0 and others. Do I have to get verified at Cryptsy to withdraw my coins, I only want to deposit Doge and take out BTC?

Digitalcoin is directly above Dogecoin, the ticker code is DGC, the addresses are similar and I was tired when doing the deposit... Digitalcoin addresses are also valid Dogecoin addresses and share the same private key, so this issue could be easily resolved by someone with wallet access, but they can't be arsed.

Cryptsy is the most trustworthy trader/exchanger on the market. Mintpal is also good.

The only verification needed is checking your email when processing a coin withdrawal from Cryptsy. Sometimes it gets sent to the spam folder.
