If they are Polish nationalists, then most probably they are fighting on the side of the Kiev junta. Another mercenary group, aiding those created by Oleg Liashko and Igor Kolomoyskyi.

Bryant, read the site. They are ours.

Given recent Polish choice in the EU Parliament, I am not surprised seeing them in Donbass, helping to fight US hegemony.

I was active in some of the politics forums a few years ago. Every single Pole I met there was rabidly anti-Russian. I am simply not ready to believe that anything has changed in a matter of 2-3 years.

There are always some exceptions.

But of course, the Polish are and would remain the most firm ally of the US in Europe. They have 4 partitions involving Prussia/Germany and Russia to complain about. It's all about geography and history.

And don't forget the Polish invasions of Russia (1812 being the latest - Poles were the backbone of the invading French army), and the Polish false-Dmitrij (1605) claiming the throne. The feelings are largely mutual.

The problem usually arises when politics starts to make itself felt.

Well, I think to the 4 partitions, I can add against Poland:

1) The blatant disregard of the polish constitution by Russia after 1815.

2) The subsequent repression of the attempts to demand respect of it that ended with the formal annexation of the "autonomous" Kingdom of Poland in 1832.

3) The 1920 invasion of Poland by the Red Army.

4) All the interferences after 1945 and subsequent dominion by the Soviet Union of Poland until the Gorbachev era.

4) All the interferences after 1945 and subsequent dominion by the Soviet Union of Poland until the Gorbachev era.

1) Is was right after the First Great Fatherland War, right after Poland had plans of dismembering Western Russia into separate counties, reporting to the Poland. The tables were turned. Poland gets a new Constitution, yet it retain much of its autonomy, with its own Seim and government. So there was no disregard, just a hallmark of new times.

2) Germans and Austrians had equally big stakes in Poland, yet for some reason it's always Russia that is the enemy...

3) Let's call it a pay-back for 1605-1618, 1812 and 1919. But honestly, a lot of history can be downside when trying to build new relations. We need a Koom Valley accord here.

4) There was no more interference from the Warsaw Pact countries then as there is interference from NATO countries now. Same business model. And Poles threw off Soviet Union domination in 1989. Russians had to wait 3 more years for that. Wink

Hmm... seems like the Polish volunteers are fighting the Kiev junta afterall.  Grin I found another link.

I include here a picture of a group of volunteers from Poland that are fighting in Donetsk enroled in the popular militias. There are many Poles that still remember how the Ukrainian nazis massacred Poles in Western Ukraine in 1941-1943. Some Poles decided to travel to Donetsk to fight against the Ukrainian fascism. A kind of revenge let's say. This picture and the information that I got is genuine and authentic. I would not be surprised if already there are in Donestk antifascists from Spain, Germany, Greece and Italy. The conflict in Ukraine is the first clearly ideological conflict in European soil since the end of the Cold War.

I mentioned Prussia also. It's because of this that Poland is a good friend of the US, two old enemies at their front and back yard. I didn't mentioned Austria, because the austrian threat ended.

I'm not even going to comment on the "payback" theory.

If I asked the polish who they prefer, the Nato or the Warsaw Pact, I think I could earn a lot if I could find a sucker to bet against me about their answer.
