'Obama says the US is indispensable, meaning all other countries are dispensable?'

Richard Becker: Yes, of course. This was a speech that might be described as “visions of empire”. You have President Obama again saying that the US is the indispensable nation. I do not know what that makes the other 195 countries in the world; I guess they are all dispensable. The only way you can reconcile that is if you consider the word indispensable as synonymous with invasive because there is no country that has invaded more countries in the world that has violated human rights and international law more than has the US. Contrary to all of the nice sounding words that came out of President Obama’s mouth on that day, it was a point.

Ouch.

Remember the Cuban missile crisis? The Americans knew that if they attack the USSR, then their European allies would be wiped out by the Soviet nukes. But still they stepped up the rhetoric, as the Europeans were dispensable.  Grin

It seems likely that America would have suffered far fewer casualties than its European allies. The fact that Britain and western Europe were regarded by some in the Pentagon as expendable pawn sacrifices was the great unmentionable of the cold war.

I feel like this isn't limited to Obama but this is a general idea some American have ( it's a good thing that there are still some american that thinks wisely and are not in this category)

I think for the reason General De Gaule decided to build a minimum of nuclear weapons and platforms to deliver them to achieve irreparable damage to USSR in case they decide to attack, it's called "Force de dissuasion nucléaire française" or dissuasion nuclear force in english

Sounds like pure Nationalism to me. There's a massive difference between being a patriot and thinking your country is above all others, sadly this sentiment seems to be shared by a helluva lot of people.

I don't know... I think it was George Washington....

On the note of insanity:

Biden urges Air Force cadets to shape 'a new world order'
http://rt.com/usa/162344-biden-new-world-order/

Quote
Vice President Joe Biden is now getting attention over the phrasing he used during Wednesday’s graduation ceremony at the military college in Colorado Springs, Colorado that contrasted sharply with the message the commander-in-chief extended at an address that morning at West Point.

During Mr. Obama’s remarks, the president told new military grads that they were likely to be the first in over a decade to not worry about being deployed to Afghanistan or Iraq. With combat operations there all but expired, American foreign policy should begin to rely on influencing the world not with the barrel of a gun, the president said, but by leading with examples of diplomacy.

Biden, however, had a different message to extend.

"I believe we and mainly you have an incredible opportunity to lead in shaping a new world order for the twenty-first century in a way consistent with American interests and common interests,” Vice Pres. Biden said to the 995 members of the class of 2014, the Colorado Springs Gazette reported this week.

Every empire ever existed has risen, reached it's peak, then fallen. It has happened time and time again... and it will happen time and time again. And America is no different(fortunately).

No doubt, the Soviets were much more responsible in accepting to take their missiles from Cuba, and even accepting that the deal on the American taking their Jupiters from Turkey would remain secret, than the Americans.

And the Kennedys were the moderated ones. The crazy and mass murderer Lemay (Japan, 1944-1945, remember the guy?) wanted to bomb the Cubans back to the stone age and then try to do the same to the Soviets.

I wish our buffoon of a president would just shut his mouth and finish his term. I prefer more golf and less work at playing a competent president.

Brave old (exceptionalist) world
http://rt.com/op-edge/162504-us-exceptional-military-aggression-russia/

Quote
“I believe in American exceptionalism with every fiber of my being.” So there it is, straight from the lion’s mouth, as in US President Barack Obama.

The rest are details: deadly details, as in the US military remaining “at the core” of the exceptional worldview; the Pentagon reserving for itself “the power to launch unilateral attacks when America’s interests are directly threatened”; eight or nine proxy wars deployed in the immediate future with no end in sight; and the most startling admission – that the “fulcrum” of US foreign policy from now on will be to curb “aggression” by Russia and China.

I think most of us all along knew that the American government were filled with Imperialists, that's the one thing that binds them all together, at least they're being more open about it now.

Obama has proven less bloodthirsty, when compared to his predecessor (the great GW, who butchered 2 million in Iraq). Obama has initiated or taken an active role in some of the conflicts such as Syria and Libya, but he seems to be a bit saner than the GW. Unfortunately, things will change once Billary (Bill + Hillary) becomes the POTUS in 2016. An invasion of Russia is definitely in the cards.

I actually think he is simply more cowardly. He is more than willing to blow people up with drones on a daily basis. He is just squeamish about the politics of boots on the ground.

May be a bit more intelligent as well. By using drones, he is reducing the American military casualties. The rising American military casualties in Iraq and Afghanistan had cost GW and the GOP a lot of public support.
