Bitcoin mining is now a specialized and very risky industry, just like gold mining. Amateur miners are unlikely to make much money, and may even lose money. Bitcoin is much more than just mining, though!

Who's going to do a 5th waiver and confirm that? LOL

I wouldn't trust anything stated. It is rumored that silk road 2.0 hijacked the coins themselves and are "paying it back" to gain trust and validation. Don't be gullible you should take everything you hear with a grain of salt, heck even this.

If I understand correctly, after the hack they said they would no longer hold user coins themselves in escrow. Did that change?

Does it really matter now? As long as they repaid back users money... And the compensation is legit seen some posts on reddit confirming that they have gotten their coins.

You should keep note that it's a different case. I'm pretty sure people didn't use silkroad as a wallet service to store their coins. Dark web sites are not known for their stability, it would be unwise to hold large amounts of coins in there. If the "stolen" coins were fewer than the ones in MtGox it sounds perfectly logical to me that they were able to refound part of the losses.

The thing is it's possible for someone like Karpeles to pull something like "forgetting" all the private keys, claim bankruptcy, and then walk away scot free legally. But in this case their whole business rests on trust and I guess if they want to be successful they have to prove that trust somehow.

In an unregulated market trust is king.

Sadly in regulated market, it isn't by the looks of it Sad

Just because he is shady? Not to nitpick but I really do think they are doing a service. I think we can all agree the war on drugs is a failure and is an excuse for governments all over the world to take some of our freedom. Just because I don't agree with something doesn't mean I think the person doing it is bad. And in this case I suppose i am proved correct as silkroad has paid back most of the funds and anticipate fully paying off in another month or so.

Wow, he's actually paying back
I'm shocked...just goes to show even the most shadiest people can hold their words

DON'T believe it!!!! Defcon, DoctorClu (DoctorClu.com?), DPR, ect are all liars!!! VERY FEW people have actually been paid back. And the ones that have were 0.12 cents or $1usd. Some small miniscule amounts. Anyone that lost any real amount of Bitcoin are still waiting. People that say they have been paid in full are shills propping up a scam marketplace. SR2 is only around because of noobs rushing in.

Stop believing everything you read in the mainstream media. SR2 was not hacked. The excuse of a transaction malleability doesn't make sense. It was a lie. It doesn't work that way. No Czechs, Russians or English groups were involved. It was simple outright theft by owner/operator. The wallets that were used to transfer coin still have over 1300 coins in them.

SR2 is indeed unsafe. For anyone. The market and forum still suffers from the Heartbleed Bug. Scams are rampant. Zero buyer or vendor support. To this day people still complain about depositing coins and they mysteriously and instantly disappear.

SR2 is a copy of SR1. SR1 was a legitimate market. SR2 stole a popular name and rips people off.
