Hello Guys,

I am not sure if this is the right place to ask it, if it is not please address it to the right place or remove it and point me the right directions.

My name is Adriano and I am one of the brazilian members of bitcointalk.org. Recently (last 3 to 5 months) we had a big increase in both Brazilian and Portuguese members in the community and our subforum has only two moderators, both with their own life so things are a bit abandoned there.

One other member (duduqa) has started a topic (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=504101.0;all) asking for the moderators to create another childforum for altcoins because of the current storm we are having on bitcointalk (many of them pay for translation and these translations go on the main Portuguese forum, making hard to watch bitcoin related posts.

His topic is in portuguese, but in short a few suggestions were made (despite the ones just wanting to change moderators) but nothing was really done outside that post. I don't think someone have even been asked to do anything.

What we need right now is a new section for Altcoins under the Portuguese section and if possible a few more moderators who can share the workload among the existing ones.

Some names brought to the table as candidates (although not all of them agreed to assume the position)  were: algorista, duduqa, Peao, Jay_Pal, pedrog, viriat0 and myself.

I would appreciate if someone could create the subsection and (at least) think about adding some more moderators to our section.

Thanks,

Adriano

What would be the translation for Alternate Cryptocurrencies?

What would be the translation for Alternate Cryptocurrencies?

It would be Criptomoedas Alternativas but I think Altcoin would be OK because even it is not being portuguese it is the most used expression.

Maybe use both as in "Altcoins (CriptoMoedas Alternativas)"

Thanks for your help.

Nah, just a waiting game now. I'll make sure it gets done though.

Hi BadBear (and all the other mods who helped us)

Thanks again for the help, we've got the new section and we submitted most of the topics there... almost 3 pages of our main section were filled with altcoin posts and now we can start discussing Bitcoin again.

Now, regarding new mods in the Portuguese section, do you think is it possible to have some more mods added in the near future ? Our local community is growing fast and it would be very beneficial to have an extra hand to the current mods.

Regards,

Adriano

Yeah. Several of the local boards need new moderators.

My suggestion would be to make a poll with the members you mentioned earlier, including yourself. While polls aren't a very good way in general to decide things, it can be useful as a guide to finding moderators for foreign language boards due to the language barrier.

Try to stress it isn't a popularity contest, don't vote for people just because you like them.

Kinda the downside but this forum is mostly US. The fact is that it's hard to support different languages and have a considerable amount of trust for people with a language barrier, so it's hard to find moderators.

Hi BadBear,

During last week we run the pool in the portuguese section, the link is the following: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=641158.0

Every member was allowed to vote for two people and it ended up in a tie between two brazilian members: Algorista and myself.

Can you please check what are the next steps? If you guys need to talk to any of us we can arrange it through irc or any other tool.

Thanks,

Adriano
