Intel Core i7-2600K 4.5ghz @ 1.35v
GIGABYTE GA P67A UD5
G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 16GB DDR3 2133
Sapphire Radeon HD 6870 @ 950mhz
[Crossfire]
Sapphire Radeon HD 6870 @ 950mhz
Sapphire Radeon HD 6870 @ 950mhz
Corsair AX 1200w Professional Series
Noctua NH-D14
Corsair Force 120GB SSD
Antec 1200v2
Windows 7 Ultimate x64
CCC11.6/SDK (I think 2.4 or 2.6)

I followed a guide to set up the CGminer because i'm trying to get away from GUIMiner now.

I created the .bat and the shortcut to make CGMiner start up, but the guide had zero information in it about setting up a .config file, i used the example.conf that was inside the folder but it's all way over my head, could anybody create a code i can copy/past or atleast get me started so i have a better hands-on understanding?

My system is listed above i have 3 GPU's 2 of them are crossfired, the other is not/can't be. I controll my overclocks and fan speeds manually and perfer it as i have a profile already set up.

They are Radeon HD 6870's, i am having a problem with GUIMiner currently detecting the 3rd GPU or any GPU not crossfire enabled, so i -may- have to switch back to SDK2.1 which from my understanding will run better on OpenCL a config file for phatk2 and OpenCL would me highly appreciated!

The error i'm recieving is most likely because i don't know how to make a config file for my set up.

At this moment, trying to set up the config. file myself i get this error.

Keep restarting until it works.

It doesn't work - i restarted it 30-40 times or more and it will not start, it's a configuration error because i don't know how to make it, i know absolutly nothing about how to write a code for this stuff, thats why iv'e stuck to GUIMiner all this time, i have to get away from it now.

Appreciate the info but this doesn't fix my issue, it's a user error thing nothing to do with CGMiner, i haven't properly set it up and i don't know how to.

While i know what kind of flags i want, i don't know how to actually put that into the CGMiner's format, i'm used to copy/pasting into "FLAGS" in the GUIMiner, go easy on me, i'm not completly illiterate i'm just not familiar with this type of thing, i have a hard time with Linux, if that says anything.

Delete cgminer.conf for now and then manually change once working.

It gives the same error without a config file. Someone was even nice enough to provide me with a preset but it still will not start up, pressing [Enter] causes it to crash

Have your resolved this?

You can isolate the GPUs that will run by using "-g"

since it seems like gpu 0 is hosed, try this: "-g 1,2"

this will give you gpus 1 and 2, but not 0.

Good Luck! I'm still trying to figure out a multipool setup with the config file and windows also.

IIRC, sdk 2.1 wont work with your 6870, only 67xx or lower.

Haven't resolved it, i'll give that a shot.

I have 2.1 Kernel (2.3) and 2.4 Kernel (2.6) installed, both show up in GUIminer, the 2.1 Kernel actually gives me much faster MH/s per GPU than the new kernel (Using Phoenix Miner)

A shortcut won't work unless you're "in" the directory where the kernel files are kept. If you're writing a .bat file make sure to cd into the cgminer directory before starting and make SURE all the files it came with are there.  Also make sure to use the latest version (currently 2.2.6).
