When do you think BTC will reach $50,000?

If the Winklevoss twins are correct, BTC will reach $40,000 to $50,000 a piece. When do you think that will happen? I am still waiting on the ETFs for BTC to hit Wall Street. Then just about every single Joe Blow can invest in BTC through their 401(k). That would be interesting times.

Will any of you here become a millionaire if BTC hits $50,000 (of today's purchasing power)?

2017

Depends on what alt coins do, as of now, no.  I would be quite happy and quite wealthy though.

Lets see, some guesses:

2015:  $10k
2016:  $30k
2017:  $70k

So I would guess $50k to be reached in 2017 but this is seriously pie in the sky at this stage.

The red line is the Excel trendline computed using only data from the past up to that point in time.  If the chart had been made on that date, the trendline would have crossed at that point.  Look what happens every time the price crosses that line.  The trendline is at $752 now.  We're almost there.  Interesting times ahead.  Also note the red line might make a good stop loss for those not holding.

According to the logistic model, we'll be there by the end of 2015. Anyone who owns at least 5 coins now will be rich by 2016.

Night gathers, and now my bitcoinwisdom watch begins.

Hehe, or much earlier. Or much later. Depends on where price heads in the coming month or two...

I mean, that's the take home message from the running calculation of the regression you graph in red, no?

In August 2011, it briefly looked as if 50k would be reached before the end of 2012. A few months of bear market later, and the updated regression would have predicted that kind of price to be years away in the future.

As we get more data, the red line moves less.  But everything is based on past performance, and any large future variation from past averages means everyone's best estimates will be baseless.

Will any of you here become a millionaire if BTC hits $50,000 (of today's purchasing power)?

Of course. Many (perhaps a majority of the more senior posters) here have hundreds of coins.

The real question is how many billionaires we'd have.

Why don't you ask Risto. He compiled a list of larger holdings. He might have at least a reasonable estimate of how many here have more than 20k coins.

That famous pizza would be worth half a billion dollars if BTC hits $50k.

You reckon the majority of seniors have hundreds? I would've thought an awful lot would've lost, gambled, sold or been scammed out of a big chunk of their holdings if they'd had that much to begin with.

Which is why I don't expect extrapolation from linear regression to ever be really an accurate predictor for future price.

It's the best we have, perhaps, but anyone who plans (or worse: calculates) with "50k, 2 years from now" might be in for a pretty bad surprise.

I agree.  It's not ideal, but it's the best we have.

Unlike claims made of fiat wealth, Bitcoin offers a way to verify account balances while still remaining anonymous.  One could sign something to show proof of ownership of an address.  Then the balance at that address will be verified as belonging to the poster.

When the sun rises in the west and sets in the east
When the seas go dry and mountains blow in the wind like leaves.

But seriously, I think it would be a big step towards it if the Winkelvii opened their exchange already.
