I agree.  It's not ideal, but it's the best we have.

For all we know it could turn out to be $80k  Cool

For real: $50k is excessively high priced but with bitcoin you just don't know. $50k would make me rich enough Cheesy $5k - 10k is more realistic goal to pursue first, then look at the whole again and plan.

Bitcoin is like a box of chocolates. You never know what you're gonna get !!

$50,000 is not a high price for the amount of money that gets moved around each day.

The market cap at $50,000/BTC is still micro-sized compared to the other markets out there.

When you consider 1mBTC=$50, it's not so big.

I am predicting when BTC reaches critical mass, it will be a matter of months when 1mBTC = $50.00, and so 1BTC=$50,000

It could be as soon as Christmas 2014.

i'm thinking we should wait until bitcoin hits $1,000 before even talking about $50,000. the farther you look into the future, the less accurate you are. imo, even talking about $10k/coin within this year is overdoing it.

This.. I don't think $10K is happening anytime soon, maybe 2 yrs at best. I know it seems like we've broken the bear trend and things seem exciting but damn

When do you think BTC will reach $50,000?

If the Winklevoss twins are correct, BTC will reach $40,000 to $50,000 a piece. When do you think that will happen? I am still waiting on the ETFs for BTC to hit Wall Street. Then just about every single Joe Blow can invest in BTC through their 401(k). That would be interesting times.

Will any of you here become a millionaire if BTC hits $50,000 (of today's purchasing power)?

I would say at this pace it could be anywhere between 2016 and 2019
However I could be grossly mistaken and it could happen as early as late 2015
That said I think it will take a while till we see those prices and it is still several years away
Considering Bitcoin went from 0 to 1000 dollars in around 3 to 5 years it will take another 3 to 5 years to reach that point

I don't think the exponential growth can be sustained in the manner you suggest.  At least, not without major mainstream adoption.  You're talking billions and billions of dollars being pumped into bitcoin.  That won't happen until there is more widespread use and demand... Could happen in 5 years, but then it again it may take 30 years.

Sounds logistic to me..! its not gonna happen in a year or 2..! Lets first see where we finish by the end of 2014 if we get to 2-3K till then It would be a good finish to the year which started badly ..! If bitcoin ever hits 50k$ mark its not gonna happen in this decade ..!

If 100M users put $500/each into bitcoin, that's $50 billion dollars.  I could see that happening within 2 years.  I think we'll be at least at a $50B market cap by this same time next year (6/4/2015).  Quote me for truth if you like, and see how well my prediction turned out!   Grin

If you look back on this forum you'll see that 99% of future price predictions have been extremely pessimistic and much lower than what actually happened. 50k could be here soon, 2015 is highly possible based on Metcalfs Law and other detailed analysis thats been posted here.

You are right; it's highly likely that $50,000 will be here a lot sooner than most people think. How many people accurately predicted that it would rise to almost $1200 last year? I am sure those that said it would were laughed at.

Even though Metcalfs Law seems to fit, it's flawed; you should read ss's $1M model thread.

Of course. Many (perhaps a majority of the more senior posters) here have hundreds of coins.

The real question is how many billionaires we'd have.

You reckon the majority of seniors have hundreds? I would've thought an awful lot would've lost, gambled, sold or been scammed out of a big chunk of their holdings if they'd had that much to begin with.

According to the polls taken on this site, anonymous polls (therefor no risk to admitting), the vast majority of the posters here have 10 coins or less.

Something like 80% of the posters here.  Among those who voted.

11 - 100 coins was like 10%.   The rest fit into the remaining 10%-ish.

Lol. That we might see increase of 10,000% ROI in 20 years is pessimistic?

Anyway i would rather have conservative estimations and be pleasantly surprised, rather than hope for the moon and be let down.  But whatever floats your boat.

To those that say it will happen faster: I would LOVE to be wrong.

True you make a good point, but with SS's trendline predicting 50k next year I'm ok with possible flaws in Metcalfs Law since there are other optimistic indicators. Hopefully we'll see it sooner than later.

I hope we will see 50K soon (q1-q2 2015)
But it kind of depends on several factors.
1 being the next leg up (avoiding the word bubble here)
if it takes us too high too fast we'll have to suffer a bit longer because the infra needs to catch up.
However if for example an amazon or pp/ebay would accept btc it would be a matter of max a few months.
when the twins etf is ready to go we will make a huge jump. They probably have a lot of cash on the sidelines just waiting for an 'ok you are approved, have fun'

Either Spring 2015 or Winter 2015:

Code:
Aug 2014 - $5 000
Dec 2014 - $2 500
Apr 2015 - $45 000
Jun 2015 - $10 000 (and probably mass panic, but this will be a 'normal' correction)
Dec 2015 - $300 000
May 2016 - $100 000
Aug 2016 - $1 000 000+
