After countless hours of hard work and continuous effort we are very proud to announce the release of NEM beta client.

Important note: This is a major update of our NEM software. Since a lot of things changed internally, a blockchain restart was needed. In order for everything to work properly, it's mandatory that you delete the NEM folder (on windows "c:\users\<user name>\nem") if you had previous versions of NEM already installed.


Changes for version 0.4.9:

• Time synchronization is activated: A block with a time stamp which is more than 10 seconds in the future is invalid. Thus future block attacks are not possible any more.
• Secure harvesting (i.e. remote harvesting): Safely harvest on a vps without losing control of your private key. Your private key is never shared with the vps, so it is safe even if the vps is hacked and/or rooted. For non vps users it will be just as useful once we have cold wallets ready.
• Switched elliptic curve from secp256k1 to ed25519: Ed25519 is a state of the art elliptic curve. Verification of signatures is about 6 times faster for ed25519. This will speed up the synchronization process.
• Improvement of POI: The Proof-of-Importance algorithm has been improved to exploit the topology of relations between accounts in order to determine the importance of an account to the NEM economy.
• Creation of "real" (live net) private key, public key and address is now possible via the menu item "Create real account data" in the GUI.

Phase 2 Redemption Guide

NEMStake(Nxt AE) redemption starts as of RIGHT NOW, and here's how you can do it:

Please install and run the NEM BETA client from bob.nem.ninja/webstart (or bob.nem.ninja for the standalone version). In the client you'll find the option to create your real address for the live-net. Please follow the steps below in order to do this:

Note: Please be sure to back up your private key, otherwise you will not get any NEM. Please put it in a place where it won't get stolen or hacked.

THIS IS IMPORTANT PLEASE READ AND FOLLOW VERY CAREFULLY:

Now that you've created a real NEM address, you will have to send your NEMStake to a Nxt address in order to redeem it. The address is NOT the issuing account. Please include the NEM address (NOT your private key!) you have created via the BETA Client as *unencrypted* message in the transaction and send it to NXT-97MX-EWKV-CGKX-DA5WH. IMPORTANT: UNENCRYPTED.

To sum up:

1) Create a real NEM address in the beta, as shown above (The field is to small for the complete address. Make sure you copy the whole thing!!!)
2) Send your NEMStake to NXT-97MX-EWKV-CGKX-DA5WH including an unencrypted message consisting of your real NEM address created with the BETA client, according to the screenshots above. Don't send your private key!

Clarification: With regards to the problem that the popup in the gui which displays the real account data cannot be selected for copy & paste (which some users reported): This is only an issue when using Firefox. We are aware of it and will fix it in the next release. You can use Chrome to have the ability to copy & paste the data.

Phase 2 Btt Stakeholders Redemption Guide

End of Phase 1 on October 31, 2014 (yeah, Halloween)

Phase 1 will end on October 31, 2014. Anyone who is a stakeholder on btt (not on the NXT AE) and hasn't registered his token until this date, will have the opportunity to redeem his stake during the extended period after launch under the already announced limitations outline here https://medium.com/@xtester/extended-redemption-period-d6e7ceaf3a53.

This will also mark the beginning of phase 2. As soon as phase 1 is over the portal will be adapted for phase 2 and we'll let you know once it's ready. When it is ready, btt stakeholders will need to register their real NEM-addresses (starting with 'N'). You'll need to enter your token and an address that you have generated according to Phase 2 Redemption Guide.

We'd like to remind you to read and follow these instructions very carefully and to keep your private key safe and secret.

Once phase 2 has begun we'll also reset the https://chain.nem.ninja/stakes/registered page to display only people who have registered their NEM-address in combination to their token. It will also show the NXT-Addresseses that have already sent back their NEMStake and the NEM-address that has been registered with that transaction. We urge everyone to check this list to make sure everything is in order! It is your responsibility to make sure everything is alright.

NEM Beta 0.4.12

After some serious work from our dev team, Build 0.4.12-BETA is released.

This build contains a lot of bug fixes:

• Send transactions dialog:

• A number of reported auto-formatting bugs have been fixed
• A bug preventing transactions of certain values from being sent was fixed
• There is a character limit on the message input box

• Fork mitigation / reliability:

• There is code to automatically migrate all clients to the correct fork
• A time sync bug that we believe was a contributing factor to the fork has been fixed
• We have upgraded a library we're using that had a bug that caused some nodes to go down

• Auto-boot improvements:
  
  • Auto-boot should work out of box without requiring users to do anything. It should just work when someone logs into their wallet.

This resolves the following GitHub issues:

• #156: The time stamp of the transaction id too far in the past
• #83 Error when sending amount x.000001
• #139 Behaviour when trying to select the amount @ send NEM form
• #159 Decimal Places
• #158 Sending NEM has a problem
• #153 more scrolling problems
• #145 Send NEM form: auto space in textbox "amount"  enhancement
• #143 Encrypting Message in Beta
• #98 "NIS is synchronized!" when just started and is definitely not synchronized
• #141 Wallet name creation on a New Beta wallet doesn't properly work.

There has been some confusion regarding nemstake redemption so i want to bring all the information relevant for nemstake holders/buyers into one place and lay it out in the most understandable way possible.

information on how to claim

the original redemption announcement can be found here. for those of you who only have nemstake on the AE, please skip straight to "Phase 2 Redemption Guide" which you will find after scrolling down.

in short -

People who have their stake on the NXT Asset Exchange will need to transfer all their NEMStake to "NXT-97MX-EWKV-CGKX-DA5WH". In that transaction you also need to include a message(do not encrypt the message) that consists only of your NEM address (see guides bellow on how to create your real account data) and NOTHING ELSE, no other text whatsoever. If you fail to provide your NEM address during this step you will lose your stake. At this point you will have provided us with all the information we need to distribute your NEM, so all you have to do now is wait for it to arrive.

you will need to install and run the beta client in order to create your real account data which you can download from here. java 8 is a requirement to run the beta.

Rules for Redemption of Nemstake.

The 2 stakes per account rule has officially been dropped. you can now redeem as many stakes as you like with out restriction.

A deadline has not been set yet but it will be at least 3 weeks(starting from the 21st of october) so the earliest deadline possible would be the 11th of november but the deadline has not been set yet so it will more than likely be longer than that. To ensure that you dont lose your stake please redeem your stake as soon as possible.

it has been decided that bitcointalk stake holders will be able to claim their stake late. it has not been decided yet if nxt AE holders will be able to do the same. if it is decided that AE stake holders can also claim late the following is how it will work for btt holders so it will most likely be the same/very similar:

After launch, redemption will be possible for 3 further months. During this period, redemption will happen with reduced equivalences for NEM stakes.

• during the 1st month after launch: 1 NEM stake is worth 750 000 NEM
• during the 2nd month after launch: 1 NEM stake is worth 500 000 NEM
• during the 3rd month after launch: 1 NEM stake is worth 250 000 NEM

As soon as the 3 months are over, not a single NEM stake will be able to be redeemed and remaining NEMs will be available for NEM development.

as for people buying stakes once they can no longer be redeemed, we will do everything we can to prevent this but of course we cannot control the free market.

Since there was a lot of confusion on how to redeem stakes, I'm attempting to clear things up with this post.

For NXT AE Stakeholders:

1. Please create a real NEM address as described in the pictures here: https://forum.nemcoin.com/index.php?topic=2488.0

2. Save those data in a secure place and keep them secret. The client will NOT save those data for you. Everytime you use the generator it will spit out a new set of data, so make sure you save everything yourself! Please also note that real addresses start with "N" not "T".

3. Once you have successfully created your real address you are ready to redeem your stake. Please send your NEMStake asset to NXT-97MX-EWKV-CGKX-DA5WH. Include a message in the transaction that consists only of your real NEM-address (the one you have created earlier).

Important Note: Please make sure the message you send is NOT encrypted.

After you have sent your asset you're done. You have successfully redeemed your asset and can now wait for the official launch.

For BTT Stakeholders:

Q1: Is there some place where I can check if everything went fine ?

Q2: When I import my private key the client shows an address with a T instead of an N. What's up with that ?

A: That's perfectly normal. It's simply because we're still on the testnet. After launch that private key will create an account with the correct address you've created - no worries. The client has a function to validate your data if you feel so inclined. You can find it in the same menu where you've created your real NEM-address, under "Verify real account data".

Q3: How long do I have to redeem my Nxt AE asset and BTT stake ?

A: Deadline is set for 22nd of November.

• In an effort to further encourage stakeholder registration, the redemption deadline is extended to last until 29 November(30 November, 00:00 GMT).
• Due to important improvements, bug fixes, extended testing and necessity of miltisig, official launch has been rescheduled for December.
• After some serious reconsideration, penalties for after launch redemption have been dropped. The redemption period will also be cut down to 2 months instead of 3.
• Starting as of Sunday we will make a series of important announcements about great things we have been preparing for NEM.
