Expanding public consciousness of decentralized services Beyond Bitcoin

Beyond Bitcoin is an effort to provide insights to the most innovative technologies and projects in the crypto space. We want to lower the barriers to entry by providing insights to the latest developments for a wider audience and help communities exchange perspectives. Beyond Bitcoin has two parts to it.

The first show is more of an informal meetup we call Beyond Bitcoin Dev Hangout. Usually we get an update from Daniel Larimer of Bitshares but then it is followed up by anyone who has a project in the space. This is where we need you guys. This is a call for any devs who are interested in talking about their project. This show is hosted on a Mumble server at 10am Central Standard Time every Saturday. We also invite anyone who wants to ask questions or participate in the hangout. Questions can be typed. At the end of the session, we clean it up, and publish it in the Public Domain for anyone else who might wish to use the material to build upon. If you would like to be interviewed, send us a message here on bitcointalk or find our subforum on bitsharestalk.org.  You can always just show up!

The second show is run by a real professional and is on the LTB network.  The "Beyond Bitcoin Show on the LTB Network" is hosted by Arthur F. Falls and can usually be scheduled more around the developer's time requirements. It is a more traditional one-on-one interview usually held on Skype.  Arthur's email is beyondbitcoinshow@gmail.com.  Arthur is a huge fan of crypto-technology and is a great interviewer.

Both shows can always be heard at beyondbitcoinshow.com

Outside of the 2 shows we would like to invite ANYONE who is interested in talking about this technology to the Beyond Bitcoin Mumble Server. This is the same server where the Dev Hangout is hosted. Currently we are trying to find the best time to schedule more informal hangouts to maximize participation.  The server can be used for community hangouts or "digital panels" where everyone can attend and one or more guests are being interviewed by the community. Contact fuznuts on bitsharestalk.org if you have any questions regarding the mumble server.

The Mumble Server's connection info is

Loved the Sunny King interview and the NXT discussion about asset exchange, and of course Dan Larimer is always on point and interesting.

Yep we're looking for someone to interview this week.

You should join us Xeroc.

I think I'll have to start sending out private messages on here inviting people.

We can also hold interviews at different times or possibly different venues.

Have you guys ever decided on a certain time that isn't on Saturday morning to have the informal meetups between devs ?  I wouldn't mind showing up but not sure if there was ever an informal time organized ?

It is not organized atm, but we are not trying to necessarily "organize" anything.  To tell you the truth, the way it is intended to be done is that the Mumble Server is Open and Completely free for anyone from any community to do something similar to what Dan and the Bitshares community does on a weekly basis.  It is for Dev Hangouts, virtual Meetups and Conferences...and anyone in the server can record at any time, so it is a content engine essentially...so long as different communities get representatives who want to use it.

Our hope is to eventually have multiple communities who use the service to create low-barrier to entry meetups that can then be used to create raw, unedited content, which can then be posted for anyone to edit.  These edited pieces of content can then be mixed and matched to create a podcast by anyone interested in doing so.

If you are interested in coming on to chat, please let me know and I'll help you figure out the details.

The shows are being held regularly at 10am central time.  Here is the one from the previous week.  The latest BBS will be posted shortly. We're still looking for other guests for anyone in the crypto-2.0 world. If you would just like to participate then come join the Mumble server.

I had listened to a previous show and this one was much better. Production quality was lacking to say the least, but the content was top-notch. Far different from the typical interview show. The Bitshares lead dev guy was quite interesting,  but a similar interview style directed at others would help your show grow.

Bitshares is a (great) starting point. Including other devs and communities is in the making...

The overall goal really is the present content that is not just of lot of talking without much content. There is so much innovation happening everywhere....

Who are the guests/topics for this week?

The guest is Dan Larimer.  We're always looking for more participants.  Either in general or anyone who has a project they would like to talk about.  Perhaps both at the same time.  Details can be found in the OP or on beyondbitcoinshow.com

The content for the upcoming show is actually quite compelling.  A user from the Bitshares community shows up and started to really delve into Dan's choice of voting method.  He really pushes approval voting and it appears Dan actually changes his mind on the issue.  Resulting in a more robust Delegated POS.  Of course many other topics are discussed too.  It should be posted tomorrow.

The intention currently is to start networking out from the Beyond Bitcoin (BTS) "starting point" (see the name on Bitshares' forum: https://bitsharestalk.org/index.php?board=58.0), and begin getting representatives from multiple communities to start using the free services provided to give raw Virtual Meetup/Hangout/Conference content.  Then it is posted for literally anyone to cut and edit to create their own "show".  Arthur is the first person to do the work necessary to be a host...but it is available for anyone.

We use Mumble for virtual events to ensure a lower barrier to entry.  The mumble server enables anyone to record conversations at any time, so it is like giving every user a free press pass along with free entry (and even a free venue for hosting).  Max limit is 380, but livestream enables people to listen in at any time (once the main site is updated to link to it) and nothing is keeping people from starting hangouts to stream it for youtube content.

Big plans ahead, and I cannot tell you all of them but lets just say our current team means to expand.  As for altcoins.  They are definitely something we are looking into and mostly just need committed people from altcoin communities (hard to find, unfortunately, with the present Pump and Dump state of the ecosystem).  We also plan on working into DACs, DApps, DAEs...etc.

From my personal perspective, altcoins are fighting in an ecosystem that is severely limiting.  Only when consensus technology gains mainstream traction with users, businesses and other entities, with the blockchain protocol know its true value.  We plan on delving into the oddities that are going to try to exist using blockchain technology in the back end and give devs and active crypto enthusiasts a place to converge where ideas can evolve collaboratively.

Definitely interested in other people joining up and providing their own content though.  As in VERY interested. The value proposition for all sides is going to be wonderful as well because those who produce content or are there early will be closer to the information pulse that is going to be the Decentralized Autonomous Revolution.  And we all know what happened to early adopters of Bitcoin.  There is no reason to believe there will be an absence of DACs with as high a market cap as the entire industry currently has...so knowing early on about projects and their legitimacy not only helps users who are informed by our experience in the field...but also helps us for knowing early on which projects in a particular biome (group of ecosystems) are "safe" for investment.

Hope this provides some insight...

Saturday is when we host the virtual meetup we hold with Dan, but literally anyone is allowed to form their own virtual meetups (and even conferences)--all we ask is that they try to coordinate with others to make sure maximum utility is assured.  With that said, I will likely have time for an extra hour or two each Sat after Dan in the case that anyone wants to update the world on a project or potentially pitch one to the DAC community.  Of course you are also welcome to meet Dan and the community and participate in discussions we are having as well...or just sit back and record to propagate to others as you see fit (raw or edited).

The intention is to help lower barriers of entry for community discourse over large distances and enable easier access to conference settings with little to no entrance fee.  This coupled with the embedded recording functionality enables all users to become potential journalists and marketers of projects they believe in.  Dan was just one of the first people to believe in it...Hope this helps and we look forward to seeing new bright-eyed additions.
