Here is the latest Beyond Bitcoin Dev Hangout.  If anyone wants to be a part of the show got to beyondbitcoinshow.com and click on Get Started.  We're always wanting more people involved.  Unfortunately we've mainly been discussing bitcoin but we're open to anyone who wants to discuss their project.

Here is the episode from the June 21rst.

https://soundcloud.com/beyond-bitcoin-hangouts/hangout-6-21-2014-dan-larimer

  • 0:58 Dan Larimer’s update on Bitshares Exchange and DelegatedPOS.   Functional alpha wallet released.  Compilation requirements.
  • 4:50 Talk of the XT shares from the previous snapshot and naming considerations.  How shares in the Bitshares ecosystem works.
  • 10:30 Dan gives straightforward basic discussion about blockchain technology and how it can affect the world in a positive manner.  Talks about how low barrier of entry can be used to further decentralization.
  • 11:50 Talk of Lavabit, pro-freedom, and the US Constitution.  The basis of rights and where they actually come from.   How are they enforced in reality?
  • 21:50 Voting in DPOS (Delegated Proof of Stake).   Discussion about voting methods and possible problems on the horizon.  How do you determine transaction fees?  Why is dilution necessary to bootstrap a DAC and the value this gives. How does paying Delegates provide value to DACs?
  • 39:56 How does incentivizing Delegates early on hurt the little guy?  Does the barrier of entry increase too much?  The concept of Charity Delegates.
  • 44:45 Proposal to use voting median to determine Delegate pay.   Discussion about using market to determine transaction fees vs dilution. Discussion about opportunity cost of negative voting in traditional voting systems that have kickbacks.
  • 54:50 Talk about how DAC employees with ability to reinvest will create explosive growth.  How does Bitcoin approach compare?!
  • 1:01:43 Post-mortem discussion.  Delegate teams? Various thoughts.  Lurkers chime in.

Yeh we have only been doing it for about 2 months now and have already had chats with Sunny King and Stephen Reid.  There are many  more outreach projects planned...but we are still new.  Beyond Bitcoin is actually meant to enable anyone to create their own content, setup their own meetups --and even start your own conferences in a virtual setting that can scale with tools currently available.  The key is to lower barriers to entry to there is no need to pay for to enter conferences and to make it easier to meet with people over large geographic distances.

Please feel free to stop by and please feel free to bring others.  We welcome everyone to do so...literally everyone.

The delegate discussion is one of the more interesting things in the crypto space atm. The almost organismic nature of DACs will soon reveal itself.

Ahhh a fan I see!  I'll be posting the next episode tomorrow.  I agree about DACs being the most innovative area right now.  There are some independent guys doing equivalent things on their own forks of existing coins, but nothing touches the breadth of the Bitshares solution.

An interesting show.  Nothing groundbreaking discussed but the vicious dog's appearance made up for it.

https://soundcloud.com/beyond-bitcoin-hangouts/hangout-7-05-2014-dan-larimer#t=0:40

  • 0:40 Status of Bitshares XTS via Dan Larimer.
  • 4:18 What Bitshares ME will be.

  • 14:08 Why is Bitshares using C++ over other languages ?
  • 18:55 Talk about partial centralization to register identities.  Dan announces the Follow My Vote DAC and discusses certification of identities.
  • 28:20 Dan talks about issues with scalability with 100% distributed systems.
  • 35:40 Talk about code to handle URLs that link to Delegate voting directly.
  • 44:16 Ethereum vs Bitshares github commit rates.  Brent from canonizer.com explains his site while being attacked by his dog in the background.
  • 48:22 The dog turns it up a notch.  Brent talks about how canonizer.com approaches the problem of wikis and opposing camps.
  • 1:03:30 Discussion about how to join the Bitshares X testing team.

We're always happy to have Dan Larimer on, but we'd also like to interview some altcoin devs out there with interesting projects.  Send me a pm here if you are interested in being interviewed.
