Quote
The affidavit accompanying the search warrant (embedded below) lays out the details that put the FBI, as well as the ATF and Department of Homeland Security onto Chamberlain in the first place. According to the text, Chamberlain was using an anonymous, Internet marketplace known as "Black Market Reloaded" to buy biological agents and lethal toxins such as abrin, ricin and pure nicotine from sellers in California and Florida. Homeland Security has been looking into Black Market Reloaded since at least April 2013, and the warrant compares the site to a Darknet version of eBay or Amazon that is only accessible through the anonymous Tor network and takes payment via Bitcoin held in escrow.

I'm surprised pure nicotine is in this list. It's a lethal yet legal substance which when diluted to the correct strength is used in electronic cigarettes.

Yes. I have bottles of nicotine in my basement that I bought legitimately. Of course the nicotine I purchase is diluted with propylene glycol but it is still a deadly poison if someone were to drink it.

Far more illicit and dangerous stuff is bought with the USD than BTC.

The main charges leveled against him are for the purchase of Abrin and Ricin. If it was nicotine alone, then perhaps he might have even avoided the prosecution. But Ricin takes it to a whole new level.  Angry

Some kind of bit coin funded terror attack is something that could set us way back. It doesn't matter if more USD is used to fund terror, just the name bit coin associated with such an act would do some serious damage.

That's one of my fears as well. But I hope people realize that even if they hurt bitcoin, cryptocurrencies are here to stay.
And I hope that thought prevents them of attacking bitcoin in the first place...

That is true for a while there the Silk Road was equivalent to Bitcoin it's faded significantly since but I'm sure that some of that sentiment remains and would set it back for a while.

I am also fearful of something like that happening. But so far, no evidence has emerged on terrorist organizations using Bitcoin. It seems that they are having other channels and methods to transfer their funds. Once those methods are blocked, they might turn to Bitcoin.

The media would love to run with that kind of story line and the low information thinkers would lap it up.

Well I think it was never totally the equivalent.
The proof is that the bull run started right after the crash.

The SR 2.0 is doing well right now, although there are a lot of scams happening there after they replaced the escrow with multi-sig wallets. But in reality, these dark markets account for less than 1% of all the Bitcoin transactions. But the anti-Bitcoin lobbyists are using it to tarnish the digital currency.

That is all they can do. Trying to make this community out to be a band of druggies, thieves, and child porn addicts. never mind the fact that the dollar is used for far more illicit items than any virtual currency.

lol... they could add these companies to the band of druggies, thieves, and child porn addicts:

1. Expedia
2. Overstock
3. Dish
4. Zynga
5. TigerDirect

Also, from now on, 50cent will be known as the leader of all the druggies and thieves.

Well the other interpretation of the reason there was a bull run right after is that the CIA seized coins and the market was feeling a positive sentiment that Bitcoin would not be associated with Silk Road anymore but your interpretation works as well.
