Big news today! We have a referral program! We'll be posting this as a separate topic, so here's the rest of the changelog:

- Referral program - 20% revenue share from all referrals for 1 year! Access it through the footer (after logged in), or from the balance page.

That is nice to have was wondering if there was a way to implement it into a bet link example in the shared link the code shows

BBCode (forums):

___________World Cup Champion By Group
Options: Group A or Group B Team | Group C or Group D Team | Group E or Group F Team | Group G or Group H Team ?ref=freedom

I was wondering if it could link to the referral in the tables as well something like the one above
To refer someone, simply enter in ?ref=freedom at the end of any betmoose.com link. Eg; https://www.betmoose.com/bets?ref=freedom.

Either way great work it looks nicer now and I like the countdown timers Smiley

Hey freedom - yes we contemplated doing it for you automatically but then that would mean we're essentially giving away 20% of our revenue *always*. We feel the sharing of your bets is incentivized by your commission payout; so stacking referral codes on top is a bit much.

That said - yes you're welcome to plug in your ?ref code in there (maybe copy paste it to notepad once you do it once). Plug in "?ref=freedom" at the end of anywhere you see "url=". For the url=blahblah#1, #2 etc, you have to plug in the ref code THEN the #1, so url=yourbet?ref=freedom#1.

Here I did this one for you;

Code:
[table][tr][td][url=https://www.betmoose.com/bet/world-cup-champion-by-group-217?ref=freedom][img height=50]https://www.betmoose.com/uploads/img/181.jpg[/img][/url][color=transparent]___________[/color][/td][td][url=https://www.betmoose.com/bet/world-cup-champion-by-group-217?ref=freedom][b]World Cup Champion By Group[/b][/url][hr]Options: [url=https://www.betmoose.com/bet/world-cup-champion-by-group-217?ref=freedom#1][color=#5BC0DE][b]Group A or Group B Team[/b][/color][/url] | [url=https://www.betmoose.com/bet/world-cup-champion-by-group-217?ref=freedom#2][color=#FBB450][b]Group C or Group D Team[/b][/color][/url] | [url=https://www.betmoose.com/bet/world-cup-champion-by-group-217?ref=freedom#3][color=#9067FF][b]Group E or Group F Team[/b][/color][/url] | [url=https://www.betmoose.com/bet/world-cup-champion-by-group-217?ref=freedom#4][color=#40CC97][b]Group G or Group H Team[/b][/color][/url][/td][/tr][/table]

Cool stuff and thanks was just wondering how to do that.

I agree with your point it is overkill to stack a referral on a commission bet
Was just curious if someone else wanted to post a bet but also mention their own referral link in an appropriate topic.
Example the just-dice bet since one was already running and sometimes a duplicate bet would be weird so that users could link their affy to the betters who looked it up.

If by 'affy' you mean their affiliate/referral codes; then yeah, anyone can click that 'Share' button and share someone elses bet but plug in their ref code inside hehe...

As it stands, we think we have 3 different points of entry for new users - home page, a /bet page and a user's /hostedBets page. I'd imagine seeing the ref codes being applied to one of those 3.

edit: this is bullshit.. i made a bet with 8 seconds to go, and 4 minutes later someone outbid me.. i don't know how that works, since there were 8 seconds to go and 3 minutes later someone beat me to it. is the timer off or something? initially i thought i had won, because it said the auction was over and i placed the highest bet.

Hey beetcoin,

What bet are you talking about? What do you mean outbid? We use a parimutuel betting model which means everyone's bets on both sides are pooled together and winnings are split depending on how much, and how early you bet. We'll be adding fixed-odds betting in the next 2 weeks which may appeal to our more traditional sportsbook-using folks. Stay tuned for that!

In other news:

We have quite a big site update coming, lots of new stuff and we just keep piling it on our development team who has been working tirelessly the past few weeks, so we'll take the weekend off then you can expect to see lots of improvements on Monday, including 2FA for login, a new category-sorting tab browsing feature, and more!

i tried to make a bet 8 seconds before the clock ticked to 0.. and i made it. the thing is though... is that 4 minutes later the auction was still up, even though the click said it was done. a whale jumped in and made the opposite bet.

so in reality, i made a bid 5 minutes before the event was finished, thinking there were literally 8 seconds to go. the timer must have been off on my side, and i don't know why that was.

We're looking into it now - the betting ended at 3pm eastern time - that is the hard-stop value that you can see all the bets adhering to.

We're thinking that one of the following could have happened:

1. Your computer's clock is off - by a LOT (like, 5 minutes)
2. Communication between your browser and computer time (are you using Tor)?
3. Significant lag which caused the script of the timer to slow down then potentially speed up? Just a wild guess here.

The time adjusts to your time-zone too so that shouldn't be an issue.

Might want to look into your configuration because 5 minutes off is not a small glitch and there's no way that the server was off since bets were still accepted right up to 3:00pm EST.

Another thing is - once you MADE the bet with 8 seconds to go, the page would have been refreshed and you would have definitely seen the bet as still open..

had i known there were still 5 minutes to go, i wouldn't have made the bet.. of course someone else would have been sitting around waiting to snipe the bet.

im not sure what's up with my clock, but after this incident i don't think it's safe for me to make any further bets until i figure out wtf happened.

Yeah those bets are dangerrousss, at least you didn't bet 2 BTC on Yes, just to get sniped by 2.1 eh Wink

We don't have anything against those whale games, but we do recommend a more fun and fair version with votes (not volume): https://www.betmoose.com/bet/there-will-be-more-yes-than-no-votes-on-this-bet

Hope you figure it out - it may be a much bigger issue on a btc or altcoin exchange btw; if we can help in any way, feel free to drop by in the chat box and we can do some server-sync time checks with you!

Also, 99% of our bets aren't time sensitive like the Yes/No volume ones, in fact, most of them give an advantage for early bettors, so I hope to see you win back that 0.1 with a vengeance on real events! Smiley

yeah i know.. it's not a good idea for me to play that game though. putting .1 into yes with 5 mins is a terrible decision.. i definitely would not have done that if the clock didn't show 0:08 seconds remaining.

i would recommend anyone else to steer clear from those bets too. the decision is based on who the bigger whale is, and who ends up betting last.

another issue with betting on the price of bitcoin by a certain date is.. if there's a bet that bitcoin will reach $1,000 by the end of the month, for example, and it does indeed reach that point.. a whale could wait until after the event has occurred, but bet has not yet been closed.

Yeah those whale games are dangerous! But rewarding if you are indeed the bigger whale.

For your second point - that won't happen - we thought of that case ahead of time. When our admins resolve a bet early, they choose the cut-off time so all bets that were put in after the said price target was reached get refunded. Something similar happened here: https://www.betmoose.com/bet/the-chicago-blackhawks-will-win-the-2014-stanley-cup

That said, you do bring up a good point that our hosts should keep in mind: If you're betting on price, make sure your 'waiting period' is significant enough that the late bettors don't get an obvious advantage.

Btw; we're investigating the countdown timer; if we find that count have made it 4 minutes off, we will refund you your 0.1!

Loving how fast the website community is growing. Just 2 weeks ago there was barely 10 people on the Hall of Fame, now there's pages of them and more and more bets. And the UI of the site is absolutely awesome.

All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given us.

Thanks for your support Nathonas! We have lots more to come; including new betting modes.

For now though; we just updated our site with a pretty big list of new goodies:

- 2FA login with Clef added!
- 2nd layer of tabs added on /bets page for easy sorting
- Hover overs over the coloured volume bars - now shows % expectation based on that bet ("market"), in addition to volume
- Private hosted bets tabs are now loaded with Ajax - should increase the page load performance drastically.
- New metrics added under Profile -> Placed Bets page. ROI calculation fixed, messy rounding addressed.
- Dynamic countdown timer will show 'less than 10 seconds' as it was found to be slightly inaccurate if you leave the page open for a prolonged period of time
- All dates will use a 3 letter short-code for months (Mmm) instead of the full word written out
- Profile -> Placed Bets detail added for closing and resolution times for each bet line
- Minor FAQ changes
- Other good stuff

Next up will be introduction of fixed-odds betting + ability to create your own markets + an API! This one should take us a bit longer and it's unfortunate we're cutting this in front of our already-designed notification center, but we hope it to be more useful to existing and future bettors.

Yes saw your 'army', very nice - great contracts the lot of them. We definitely want to see a more diverse audience on our site to turn the 'Political' and 'Economy' categories into more of a prediction market. I predict that we'll see quite varied usage in the future depending on category. We also rolled out some SEO tweaks for each bet page so more users should be hitting the site from Google searches now.

I also didn't understand your edit request - your title and logic said 'By September', why would you want the outcome set to August 1st?

For ability to create your own markets: we are still thinking about the best, most-betmoosy way to introduce odds betting, but what we've conceptualized now is you will be able to create a bet (aka "market") with set odds. There will likely be a minimum 10 BTC requirement to create any fixed-odds markets (as you act as your own 'house' counterparty to them). Bettors will be able to place up to the payout of the pot (so, 10 BTC in the minimum example), on either side at the odds being offered by the host. The host can change the odds to help balance the sides, or can deposit more liquidity once the max is hit (if it's hit). Also, bets on both sides free up the initial liquidity (as the bets will be matched). Any unmatched liquidity is obviously returned to the host at the end as well. The tricky part is not upsetting users who may want to create the same bet but with better odds (since we don't want duplicates), so it's possible we might go with a flexible odds setup like betfair, where we have back/lays within each market.

We really want to keep a more social, simplified feel though so it's definitely a tricky bit. Lots of shower thinking Wink

I meant the date to make the bet would be set for August 1st from August 31st since I wanted a bet that had a volatility range from the Settlement date.
The settlement date is still September 1st, I just wanted to add a little margin this time to differentiate from the previous one I made to avoid too much last minute waiting on it Wink
It's fine to delete the Litcoin one as well since it hasn't been bid on yet I'll just remake it with the adjusted date since I didn't want to have a dupe around.

In regards to Fix Odds betting very nice I like the idea since its winner takes all or 1 Vs 100 ^_^
In prediction terms ha-ha although I'm not sure if it is possible to set a multi stage prediction game where you choose from multiple choices with the person at the end who survived all the rounds getting the prize and winning the pot or winning most of the pot and the last survivors getting a little bit of it when eliminated.

Still neat stuff

We are planning on introducing 'Versus' mode which is a slight spin-off to our parimutuel betting model. In Versus mode, bets must be matched, or are otherwise refunded. This means winnings will be capped at 2x (you can win double your money maximum), however, if you bet 10 BTC vs 1 BTC the max you can lose is 1 BTC (9 BTC will be refunded). This should encourage larger bets with downside protection.

Here's the question; Do we still 'pool' bets based on weight and time or do we adopt a 'first come first serve' matching model?

Example:

Let's say Yes has 0 and No has 0 (bet start)

First method: (assume time multipliers fixed at 1x)
Person A places 10 BTC on Yes.
Person B places 5 BTC on No.
Person C places 10 BTC on Yes.

A wins: Person A and C walk away with 12.5 BTC (half the opposite pot based on their weight).
B wins: Person A and C lose 2.5 BTC; B walks away with 10 BTC, A and C walk away with 7.5 each.

Second Method:
Person A places 10 BTC on Yes.
Person B places 5 BTC on No.
Person C placed 10 BTC on Yes.

A wins: Person A walks away with 15 BTC as it's a first-come-first serve model. Person C gets 10 BTC back.
B wins: Person A loses 5 BTC, walks away with 5 BTC, Person B walks away with 10, Person C walks away with 10.
