So the finished version uses only one USB port as opposed to the 4 USB cable tangle we see per box on the test unit? The prototype looks like four independent miners each with its own power and controller/usb interface. Is the end product going to be like this?
Yeah seriously, are we going to need a USB hub for each miner? No you will not.

I will also be shipping from the US. We'll be taking orders as soon as units begin shipping from China.
waiting to order. I have 3 resellers to pick from all three including you have been good to me. I am going to see if they work as well as they look. I am going to see if they are killer loud. I am going to see what software works. Right now I am very happy with the 6 r-box units they work well. 192 gh stable just under 240 watts with a plat psu

Then batch one is available on the 25th. Batch one will be very small so if you want some you will need to get in early through whomever you choose.

I sell PCIE connector leads, a new batch with 24" length is arriving at the end of the week. perhaps that is a viable solution? (I imagine you are trying to power the PCIe port from a server supply)

Probably a stupid question, but if I purchase one of these without a pi, can I just plug it into a windows laptop for set up, plug it into an ubuntu computer or set up, or configure it through an ip (like antminers)? Would I have to keep the laptop/desktop running?

For Asicminer Gen 3/Rockminer perilously close, yup. If Antminer S3 is priced at 1 BTC per unit, their 20% of the network hash rate could easily jump to 30% almost overnight with the group buys and retail sales these things will generate. The S3 will sell like friggin hotcakes, no doubt, cornering the home/mid range miner and probably replace those Antminer S1 farms you see out in the wild.

I agree the RK-BOX is obsolete even before it is released. If Bitmain opens sales on Friday or Saturday the S3 will fly off the shelves. Asicminers only hope is that the S3 goes out of stock quickly.

Well it will need a big price drop to compete. 480/450 = 1.07 watts a hash 390/500 = .78 watts a hash but if the s-3 sells at 700 usd and the rk-box sells at 500usd it will take a while for the power savings to make the s-3 the better gear. some quick math . s-3 9 x 500gh = 4500gh at 700 a pop 9 x 700 = 6300 watts 9 x 390 = 3510 watts rk-box 10 x 450 gh = 4500gh at 500 a pop 10 x 500 = 5000 watts 10 x 480 = 4800 watts the case above hash is equal the rk=bx has a 1300 usd price advantage the s-3 has a 1300 watt advantage 1300 watts = 1.3 k watts x 24 hours = 31 k watts a day at 20 cents that is 6.20 usd a day so it takes 200 days for the s-3 to be better if power is 20 cents a k-watt. at 15 cents that is 4.68 usd a day so it take 277 days for the s-3 to be better if power is 15 cents a k-watt. at 10 cents that is 3.10 usd a day so it take 400 days for the s-3 to be better if power is 10 cents a k-watt so if the rk-box is 500 usd and the s-3 is 700 usd you are better off with the rk-box.right now I have seen the rk-box at 599 from minersource and not seen a price for the s-3 . Frankly the s-3 appears better but pricing will determine what to buy. Of course if the rk box is crazy loud or either one works shitty that will be a factor. so I see that pricing is very important here.

@philipma, don't forget to factor the Pi that's separate.
You still need a Pi for each of the RK-Boxes and a beefier PSU as well.
With the S3's power draw at 390W, you can get cheaper PSU's for each, or fit more S3's onto a large PSU.
Can't say the same for the Rk-box which could possibly be more than the hypothetical 480W stated.
Also, if you want the most hash possible, you know you'll be able to overclock the S3 if it's anything like the S1 (which it looks like by all accounts and specs). So probably closer to 550 GH/s perhaps.
So let's say 5 TH/s for arguments sake for the 9 S-3's you gave in your example.
That blows the Rk-Box out of the water and out of the atmosphere at the same time.

yeah psu's mean nothing for me ( as i have more then 5 idle plat psu's) but do mean a lot for others. over-under clocking is a big factor. noise level a big factor. the pi factor is costly and the corruption of sd cards. lastly if these s-3's work like s-1's with the simple plug in of an ethernet cord and reset after a blackout they will be a killer.
