UPDATING THE WALLET:

IMPORTANT! :

Unfortunately the update to 1.0.0.1 has caused a fork (because a lot of people and some services did not update their wallets in time for block 85000) ... the competing 1.0.0.0 fork was so strong that the actual fork did not manage to take off. To combat his we decided to launch a 1.0.0.2 version on a protected net (we blocked the 1.0.0.0 clients while syncing), hook up a pool of our own and make sure the blocks started flowing again. It was a desperate measure, but it has worked.

After updating you might still get a warning that displayed transactions might not be correct and other nodes need to upgrade ... unfortunately this is partially true (other nodes need to upgrade) and this will be the case until everyone who is running as node has upgraded to the 1.0.0.2 version  .. however the chain is active and and mineable and the warning should disappear as soon as we have managed to contact the nodes not run directly by us.

Before upgrading: remove ALL files but your wallet.dat (it is always wise to make a backup of your wallet.dat before doing anything)

Windows:
Type: %APPDATA% in your explorer
(Or manualy go to C:\Users\{YOURUSERNAME}\AppData\Roaming\
Enter folder atheistcoin and remove all files and folders EXCEPT wallet.dat

Linux:
Open a terminal:

cd ~/.AtheistCoin
cp wallet.dat ../
rm -r *
mv ../wallet.dat .

Mac OSX:
Open a terminal:

cd ~/Library/Application\ Support/AtheistCoin
mv wallet.dat ../
rm -r *
mv ../wallet.dat .

ATHEISTCOIN (ATH)
After months of planning, preparing, coding and designing we are proud to launch AtheistCoin.
We have put a lot of work and thought into this project, for us this is the start of a new adventure.

We are a group of like-minded people who take pride in the fact that our search for truth relies on empirical data and scientifically proven facts. We depend on autonomous critical thinking through the faculties of reason, logic and empiricism. This comes from within and from our peers through feedback. It is this intellectual endeavour that has ultimately led to science; the most prized achievement of mankind.

We are advocates of free thought and strongly feel that this is a fundamental human right. Cryptocurrency is an exciting new technology that fits perfectly within the framework of atheism and is an embodiment of free thought and liberation. Our mission is that AtheistCoin will provide an additional means to strengthen and support the free-thinking community and the causes that we stand for.

One of our main goals is to establish ourselves as a non-profit community organization and provide financial support in the form of donations in an array of fields ranging from education, science to humanistic projects.

The emphasis will lie on constructive and positive engagement. The potential of the technology behind the coin makes it suitable for multiple purposes, thus we will not limit ourselves to this one application. We will continue to explore the possibilities… When choosing the direction of the coin and the projects to be funded we will take community feedback into great consideration.

This is achieved by polls, active participation in forums and chat-rooms, intellectual debate held across other mediums of communication.

Didn't work.  It processes blocks quickly up until 12435 and then starts complaining about orphan blocks and misbehaving nodes.  It appears that, in the opinion of the client as it currently exists on github, the blockchain is corrupt.

Dev...could you please do a fresh compile and install on Linux and check this out?

Hmmm... from the Announcement:

We are advocates of free thought

But apparently not very much, as evidenced by the "self-moderated" (that is, censored by the thread owner) status of this thread.

Everyone claims to value free thought and freedom of expression. An atheist can say they are for free thought or totally against it and either is equally valid in an atheist worldview, it's not like the universe cares one way or the other. There are many, many threads dealing with contentious issues on this forum that manage to get by without censorship. So repeatedly making reference to "free thought" and valuing "intellectual debate" does not square well with this choice.

Best wishes with the coin though. Though I expect that entry into the Necronomicon will not be staved off too long.

Hi ebliever,

You seem to take free thought too literally when making a case for it against a self-moderated topic.
Also, you shouldn't mix up free thought with freedom of thought and freedom of speech/expression.

To help you along here are two qoutes from wikipedia/freethought:
"Freethought or free thought is a philosophical viewpoint which holds that positions regarding truth should be formed on the basis of logic, reason, and empiricism, rather than authority, tradition, or other dogmas."

"Freethought holds that individuals should not accept ideas proposed as truth without recourse to knowledge and reason. Thus, freethinkers strive to build their opinions on the basis of facts, scientific inquiry, and logical principles, independent of any logical fallacies or the intellectually limiting effects of authority, confirmation bias, cognitive bias, conventional wisdom, popular culture, prejudice, sectarianism, tradition, urban legend, and all other dogmas."

Now that the notion 'free thought' is clarified, you can surely understand why self-moderation to stave off and censor trolls and other junk is a sensible choice and fits well within the framework of free thought. Therefore, this isn't an instance of a contradiction or inconsistency.

Thank you for bringing it up so it could be clarified and thank you for the best wishes, best wishes to you too.

Kind regards,

no.

its an insult to us.

as if we do not have the brain to realize who is troll and who is not.

any intelligent person would just do his own research, and check the block chain. we would not yield to FuDs these noobs try to spread.

Thats great to hear and we realize there are a lot of people who do know how crypto works and have sufficient knowledge , unfortunately that is not the case for everyone. If we can protect our potential future investors in any way we will always try to do so.

We hope you understand, and i would like to point out we did/will not remove any negative posts just for being negative. As we have stated in our OP we want the community to get involved and start a discussion, so the last thing we want to do is silence our crowd.

To quote you; The Mind is like a parachute, its useless unless open.  Wink
