No your just missing the point I was being sarcastic 5 posts ago. It's called a rhetorical question. The point being there is nothing wrong with sdk 2.6

I'm using 12.1 drivers with the runtime from 11.11 drivers (SDK 2.5.793.1), which is the latest 2.5 sdk. On a 5850 with phatk V2 W256 (970 core/150 mem), yields ~400MH/s.

Also, how do the driver not matter? It includes an updated runtime
... which will only be installed in case you select it.

SDK 2.6 is useless for anything else than GCN (series 7xxx) atm, since you are required to mine at stock ram clocks, while SDK<=2.5 means you can massively underclock ram and highly overclock the core.

Okay so explain how my 6970 cayman card is running at 1015mhz core and 200 mhz memory with sdk 2.6? phatk v2 w128 gives me ~455 Mhash/s

Because likely your ram is still at stock. Smiley  Did you verify w/ cgminer of GPU-Z (sensor tab) that memory is actually changed?

My crystal ball is telling me your ram is at 865MHz! Shocked

Is it true? Shocked

lmao the readings are correct, I can show you a picture. how else would I be getting 455 Mhash/s if it was stock and how would my temperature still be 75 celcius? I have checked gpu-z before as well, but mainly to look at the other readings.

It's all thanks to msi afterburner, I can disable powerplay and clock ram as low as I want, as long as its 2.2.0 beta 10 or below. They messed something up with newer versions.

The Mhash/s isn't even that important I watch it for 5 minutes every now and then to make sure it's putting out at least 7 shares/min. It ranges from 5-14 depending on how the pool's LP is performing.

There are so many optimizations possible with the new sdk it sucks everyone is staying away from it, I'm testing a really nice one I found that might be able to give a 10% boost overall, but I haven't had anyone else test it yet so I don't know.

That is absolutely not true. Both Diablo and I have spent an awful lot of time optimising for this SDK and still are doing so.

will afterburner handle all of your card? do you have to set different profiles for each card?

I want to run 2 5970's and 2 5870's under water eventually, but want to get it running on air first of course. I'm using windows 7 pro 32bit. I can upgrade to 64bit but it doesn't seem to matter unless you want 8 gpus, so screw it. I have free copies from work of 32 bit.

So do i set four profiles somehow? Or do you guys recommend different software for something like this ? Or should I do 3 5970's and then hut a machine with 4 5870's together?

I did not mean to offend you or diablo, as you say you guys are actually still optimizing with new SDK which is awesome. I just see a lot of people sticking with older SDK because they assume it's slower

Nobody is assuming anything.  IT IS SLOWER at lower memclock.  The people who have developed on it will even tell you the same thing.

What's worked for me (in Windows):

1.  Install desired version of Catalyst.
2.  Go into Uninstall Manager, do a custom uninstall of Catalyst and tell it to remove only the SDK.
3.  Download the SDK (2.1?) archive.  Open it with something like WinRAR and find the 2.1 Dev .msi file and run that.

And you should be good to go.

Everyone with high power costs hates overlocking. Personally every hash I can squeeze out of the cards just means more profits for me.
11.11 driver works well, if 11.12 you need to delete the following files after uninstalling 11.12 to downgrade.
C:\Windows\System32\amdocl64.dll
C:\Windows\System32\amdoclcl64.dll
C:\Windows\System32\OpenCL.dll
C:\Windows\SysWOW64\amdocl.dll
C:\Windows\SysWOW64\amdoclcl.dll
C:\Windows\SysWOW64\OpenCL.dll

Thank you

Thank you

Thank you!

i'm running 12.3 with latest sdk and I oc at 950/1200 (bios mod) for gaming (watercooled, never above 37c) and if I downclock the memory to 300, I save around 50-60watts (which I honestly can't say I care about since I got a fixed rent which includes electricity).  at 1200mhz memory, I get between 770-820 mh/s on the pool management software, while I don't know how much lower I'd get at 300mhz memory.  That's on CGMiner 2.3.1-2 and phatk.

Why not run it lower if nothing else to reduce heat and simplify cooling.

BTW I got 24 5970s.  60W a piece = 1.4KW.  Smiley  If my electricity was free I would still do it because that is 1.4KW less heat.

BTW phatk2 can run much lower than 300Mhz.  I just noticed you said latest sdk.  SDK 2.6 sucks for 5000 series cards and low memclock.

I live in a cold place, heating won't be an issue until mid-june at the earliest.  If anything, I "save" on the heating bill Wink

Also, I tend to run driver combos that let me game on this machine.  My primary miner is a 4x6970 machine (running 3x now because apparently the motherboard likes to burn up at the pcie power plug...2 cables up in smoke so far)

Although I must admit 12.3 are shit for BF2, I get crashes about every hour on average while 11.11 were perfect (up until a week ago, when it started flickering like crazy...sigh)
