According to NIST and ECRYPT II, the cryptographic algorithms used in
Bitcoin are expected to be strong until at least 2030. (After that, it
will not be too difficult to transition to different algorithms.)

If you just bought these to flip them, I'm confused as to why you didn't just cancel your orders and get a refund from KNC.
At 10k per unit, you would have received a lot more than 10 BTC per unit by choosing the refund option.

i dont think people got refunds so i thought getting in hand something was safer Those seeking refunds early (in March and April) received refunds relatively quickly and without questions. I was a bit taken aback with the "no questions asked" refunds being taken seemingly to the extreme, without so much as the traditional "is there anything we can do to keep your business" kind of question. Mine were refunded in the same way I paid, minus bank fees. A friend was refunded in btc so he cashed out fairly well. My guess is that as trickle of refund requests turned into a flood, the claimed delays, queues and lies increased as the refund rate decreased, most likely due to two reasons: shock (so many requesting refunds) and greed (self explanatory).

Yeah i stuck thinking we had hash while you wait in april I wish you the best of luck. KnC traded on the success and good will they built in the community with the Jupiters to sell the Neptunes. All evidence shows they got bitten by the gold btc bug after that and decided to screw their customers as they'd soon not need them anyway. After the datorhall began producing millions for them, they no longer needed, nor barely cared for the customer. They probably only produced the Neptunes to stay out of prison, and for their own uses of course. Karma has a well known reputation, and I and I'm sure many others hope that Karma will be paying all of the rotten people at KnC a visit soon (e.g. Sam and others at his scheming level) leaving the very few good ones there alone (way down the line and probably underpaid workers).

Why would you magnify your loss? I'm sure people would try to help you track down the scammer for ~4 BTC, so why would you want to offer 10 BTC and lose another 1.8 BTC if the scammer is caught? I don't get it.

If I were you, I would take a deep breath and lower your bounty so you recover some BTC and don't lose more if the scammer is caught. Perhaps you can check with the forum mods to see if they can give you information about the scammers ip address, and see if it matches any other forum users ip address? I'm sure it is logged by the forum.

Sorry for your lost Interesting. Noticed this has been happening. There is someone or a few people that stalk for sale items and try to impersonate the sellers. They get lucky sometimes. They almost scammed one of my buyers on a previous sale but he caught the difference. Be sure to leave negative feedback and the OP of this post should leave the account negative feedback for impersonating Example. https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=324296 tried to impersonate me before

Sorry to hear you got scammed tzortz, that really sucks.
I think the forum should implement some changes to new membership names to combat this type of fraud. Scammers just substitute a zero for an O, or add a tiny character like ` on the end of a known name.

The coins haven't moved yet, so that's good. Have you sent a threatening PM to the scammer yet asking them to return your coins? It's a long shot, but I'm sure they are monitoring this thread, and considering they just stole over $4000 they may return them if they think they are close to getting caught.

I agree with this. This should be raised to the moderators. All new accounts should not be able to send private PM's for X number of days. Should be able to be done very quickly. In the meantime, monitor the coins. If it gets moved to coinbase or some registered account that you can track, you might have some hope.

Hate hate hate to see this happen. 1+ to implementing some kind of security to stop this. With any kind of website every account you sign up with will register an IP address. Perhaps the mods could report it to the authorities? Still a long shot with Bitcoin being anonymous. A way to stop this could be as simple as making new accounts wait 10 days to PM. When someone posts a [WTS], most of the time within 10 days it is sold, preventing scammers from creating phony accounts. Thanks, Jacob

In bitpop's defense, if I had purchased something from him I wouldn't want the information released without my permission, including the price paid and identity. That's what's called a "private transaction" between private individuals.

Yeah i hate being private, I usually do everything public and transparent I'm not releasing buyer of course but price was 11
10 for Neptune .89 fedex overnight Saturday delivery .11 ognasty fee
I'm awaiting 10.89
I'm saying this because buyer never explicitly said private but did use pm and buyer and escrow agreed to use escrow public signature address, full disclosure

If it means anything, reading this will help to remind me to look for scams like this in the future and to take extra precautions.

Always pgp, even my account can get compromised but it's never happened And pgp is only useful if you store it before http://pgp.mit.edu:11371/pks/lookup?op=get&search=0x0171993B7B5E92C0
