Once it gets stuck it requires patience till it frees up.

You don't need to send them to an exchanger. Just let them in your wallet and staking will do the magic

Not at all.
First it takes awhile for any and every deposit of coins to "Mature" so they can be staked.
Then the time frame you speak of is just the varied time difference it could take till blocks are found...unless I'm Mistaken.

Your coins will always stake as long as you have your wallet open/unlocked/staking.

No, they don't stop staking after 8 hours. They will stack until you close your wallet.
It can take 1 - 8 hours until "one stack" is finished. It don't know how to explain but I hope you understand me.
In rare cases it can happen that your wallet stops staking. Don't be scared about this.
I would not suggest to open and close your wallet in this case.
Just wait some minutes and staking will begin again soon.

Not at all.
