Are they lying about keeping the energy bills down? This miner is almost as hot a scrypt... anyone else noticing that?

There are no low energy algorithms, only poorly optimized miners.

Would 3.5MHs be enough to be worth trying solo mining?

If I'm not mistaken, at the moment you would need 234 hours on average to find a block with that hashrate.

Where is the major hash rate coming from?

I see 50,000MH for the net.  The listed pools in the OP total only 4000MH.

suprnova has 27,763 MH/s now

My guess is most people weren't online when the actual launch happened. Normally I don't engage in name calling on the forums but the dev is either lazy or incompetent (my vote on the latter). The so called wallet had/has dogecoin logo attached to it. Then the miner testing was done on the main net rather than the testnet allowing 70-80 blocks to be mined even before the coin was launched. So anyone mining with a view other than dumping it when it debuts on the exchange, stop now, there is no future for this coin.

solo miners mostly. dev was kind enough to allow miners to be released pre-launch for "testing purposes" on the main net. It was 1GH/s even before the coin debuted.

Yeah lazy ... 3 miners ready and a rental service at start... the testnet was on another chain if you compare the pics before and the dev said he forgot to delete the doge logo for setuplaunch

That hash rate is quite low for solo mining as many farms have already jumped in.

Why did you not update the address version!? This means that a FRAC and a FRESH address are the same and both start with F Sad

Actually, the launch was pretty decent compared to the average launches these days. The dogecoin logo in the installer is just an image which got left over. In fact I think it's funny how people responded to that while some devs are using other coins' complete code instead of images and nobody cares (you decide which is worse).
The miner testing happened on testnet, although the first 70 or so blocks were indeed mined early because someone compiled the wallet before the password was released. Basically anybody who is upset about that instamined 30.000 coins while so far over 700.000 coins were mined is pretty much just jelous it wasn't him. Either way, it is silly to claim it can't have a future.

Not your keys, not your coins!
