Namecoin DNS server for .bit domains

I've started a dns serveur on 178.32.31.41 which resolves .bit domains.

There is a small web page to list current valid domains (which have set an ip address in the correct json format : use " and not ') :
http://namecoin.bitcoin-contact.org/

To use it, just modify your dns server and add this ip.
Here is a good starting page on how to modify your dns servers (just put my ip instead of the opennic one :p) :

Current domains (it will timeout if you don't have added my dns server) :
- bluishcoder.bit
- tester.bit
- toys.bit

If someone want to donate me some namecoins, i'd be gratefull (i generate and generate but i still get nothing...)

Hm.  The URLs you provided were timing out, although I'm very interested in hosting the Bitcoin Bulletin at a .bit address.  So I'll try again tonight.

Ah, sorry, I was in a rush and didn't notice that.  Yes, this will have to wait until a later time for me, but I'll still want to test it out.

So I added it as my third name server, and it didn't work. It worked when I put it in the front of the list.

Does this mean I'm using you for all my dns? I don't think I want that.

you only use 1 dns server. all the other ones are "backups", in case if your primary one fails.

If you don't want to use someone elses DNS server you can set up dnsmasq on ubuntu pretty easily to serve namecoin domains and fall back to your normal DNS. I've added support for ns delegation too (thanks gsan for the help on bind) as it was on my priority list.
So, you can now manage your domains like you do it before, by using this free dns manager https://xname.org for example.

OpenNIC domains will be added very soon.

You must purchase some namecoin (some people are selling on the forum) and register it with the namecoin software (which is a cloned version of bitcoin adapted for domains).



I've just added all OpenNIC domains support : * .bbs, * .free, * .fur, * .geek, * .gopher, * .indy, * .ing, * .null, * .oss, * .micro

Id like to run the client and mine... but I can only find the source code. Possible to download a namecoin client for Windows somewhere? Thanks for help.

It seems to be installing as bitcoin and bitcoind

Use 'make' instead of 'make -f makefile.xxx'.
Then you'll need to configure a diffrent RPC port in the config file (in ~/.namecoin/bitcoin.conf), and set a password too.
