I have dabbled a little in alt's, I was lucky enough to mine namecoins the same time I was mining BTC, Glad I saved them (sold at a good price) then I purchased some litecoins, I was going to buy a few hundred to a thousand a week, but only did it for a week. (stupid me), thats when litecoins were just a few cents a piece..

So, I want to get some advice on the alts.. 2 years ago, there wasn't much of a choice, not there are tons.. so, any info would be appreciated..

1. Diversify
2. Don't buy on hype.
3. Buy coins that are gunning to be best-in-class in some valid market niche, and have a track record that shows more than empty promises.
4. Be prepared to take a lot of shrapnel while hoping for a few big winners. Most of your investments will tank, you just need a few big winners to come out ahead. (That's why Diversify is #1 rule above).

Best wishes with it.

NXT is the only one that is worth considering. Others are either too limited (only come with one extra feature above Bitcoin) or in early alpha. NXT is stable enough and adds a new feature every 2 months.

I would ask you to take a good look at AppleByte. We launched May 1, 2014.
DISCLAIMER: I am on the Dev team of AppleBytes, so I am certainly biased Smiley

We are focused a building a niche market, supporting artists of all types and started in NYC, which of course is a mecca for artists.

Here is a quick summary, you can see lots of details and lots of progress on the links below.

Steadily rising price, traded on poloniex.com, no pump & dump
Rapidly growing user community, we have 2000+ artists & art lovers on twitter, 1300+ on FB
We have given the users many places to spend their applebytes: AppleByte VISA card, Subway & ShakeShack gift cards, and our latest, the AppleByte AMC Movie Theater Card. On our Forum, you can see the promotions we have done: Places to spend AppleBytes

The coin is no simple clone, we implemented security features like Autocheckpointing & DGW2 from the start
Mining schedule over 8 years, halves approx. every two years, 1 Billion coins
We are well funded by The AppleByte Foundation & the premine that we did will be used to fund Artist scholarships over the next 10 years, so no airdrop
Devs were paid in Bitcoin (from the Indiegogo campaign), not premine
We are traded on Poloniex

AppleByte info:
Announce Thread: Announce Thread
Website: AppleByte.me
Crowd Funding Campaign: Indiegogo Campaign
Facebook: AppleByteMe FB Page
Twitter: AppleByteMe Twitter

There is a lot of work to do of course, but we are focused on longterm user community growth, and I believe make a worthy longterm investment.

Take a look at MAST: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=613622.0
The dev seems to be working hard, there is already a new feature called Coin Recycler developed and being implemented into GUI wallet. Moreover, currently it is definitely undervalued considering the new features and the amount of coins.

Pick the ones that seem to have a future based on market trends the ones most people are familiar with are Darkcoin NXT and Dogecoin each has its own methodology and value but in terms of market cap the ones that will survive will have a strong userbase

http://coinmarketcap.com/

Based on coinmarket cap I would recommend Darkcoin or XC for analysis but you can make a better decision by combining market cap with user base and innovations.

Best of luck with your decision

yup what kelsey said..
problem is the market is diluted so think about what that means..

and every coin i seen suggested so far is a load of bs.. especially NXT !
the wacko said it was the ONLY coin worth investing ? seriously ?

i advise none .

they are all garbage period.

you said you want to "invest" and NONE of these are a good investment.
for two reasons.. what has played out in the scene and what is available.

I don't offer any advice at all, but a free way to learn. I was very much in your position and did some research and now I'm trying to turn $1000 into $2000 in 6 months by trading the interest from stake coins. Follow along risk free if you want Smiley

Long term I'd also go XMR.

Stay away from NXT and even DRK.

CRYPT could be interesting if btc-e lists them (they claim they are in talks)

I like XXX because I feel they can capture a good % of that market.

Voot has quite a bit going for it as well as Veri.

Market Cap Volume Utility Growth and demand
The most important factor is the reliability of the code followed by innovation to the ecosystem
Example most coins use variants of Litecoin/BTC but only a few have stepped out to make their own codebase.
Lite and BTC only have about 200 different lines of code but the codebase has been proven reliable different coins that are non-btc variants have unique codebases but have so far been proven to work.

Some new coins territory/coding is fresh ground so it has to be tested first.

DarkCoin (DRK)

Is about to release RC4
Get in now while it's cheap

Ha !!!

That's funny. I was about to recommend NxT and Darkcoin as being the only two unambiguously worth investing in right now. I'm not saying others aren't worth investing in, I'm just saying that NxT and Darkcoin are "unambiguously" worth investing in Smiley

Man, I can't believe all the choices, now I really regret not buying even a few hundred bucks worth of litecoin when I had the chance, oh well.. Im not going to try to buy 10 alt coins for the chance of 1 making it, i want to do some research and take my chance on the 1 or 2 that I think will be best. Or maybe just keep buying bitcoins... Im definitely a holder. The only time I sell btc is when I absolutely have to (like when bitcoin was above 1k and i needed a car, I still cant believe just 28btc bought the family  a very nice new hybrid sedan. makes me sick to think of all the times I sold 800 coins for 3200 bucks.ugg. at least I didn't sell all of them..

So, are there any alt coins worth risking in right now? I think the best thing to do is keep my eyes and ears open and keep looking...

Find a coin with a great name, a strong community, and developers with mad skills.
