It depends on your definition of future I suppose. I think in the near future the technology will evolve quickly, new application coins, DACs, whatever will start to appear. As that happens most people will move away from the old coin "old technology" and onto more useful things. Such as decentralized exchanges, banks, market places, forums, games etc. that have block chain technology. Check out bitshares, counterparty and etherium for some of the innovators in crypto.

Noblecoin

I like Noblecoin. It seems like a really genuine project with not too much BS or scammers.

(and NXT might be worth a go as well)

Today top future players:
- BTC ( to big to fall )
- similiar protocools: ( NXT Bitshares NEM good core developers ) Java POS family
- similiar protocools: (Blackcoin good core developer, + some coins in line XC Cloak, unfortunately PPC at development goes slowly )
- similiar protocools: ( LTC good core devs Doge as support coin )
- anon XMR or ANC ( ring signatures vs zero knowledge )
- Counterparty is interesting and builded on BTC (1st decentralized exchange cool projects)

Features:
in real most features can be builed on any coin like when lets say BC will deliver decentralized exchange later all will adopt it
when Cloak will deliver one market rest can go inside and trade on cross chain solutions...
Centralized solutions like holytrransaction can be build on any coin no matter name

Hi guys, can anyone give an idea about what ALTCOIN will dominate and succeed in the future?
In terms of its price in usd and market status. This thread is just for your opinions to be heard

nobody knows. i there will stay  few altcoins like LTC was in good days. (may be litecoin will be the one of them). i think that should be altcoins with different technologies (PoS/PoW  CPU/(GPU-priveleged),  mining and etc) for peoples interesting in one of them with prices near 6-8 USD. in this forum my idea sounds like "99% of shitcoins must die! Grin"

Imho, it will be:

- Bitcoin because of the first-mover advantage.
- Dogecoin because of its big community and its high transaction volume.
- Peercoin because it's a PoS coin (thus an hedge against PoW's problem) which has a good distribution.

I also think a few other cryptos will survive by filling niches in community which can benefit from cryptos.

I think coins that are backed by hard tangible assets are the future, ala http://www.businessspectator.com.au/news/2014/7/17/technology/gold-dealer-launches-first-bullion-backed-cryptocurrency

The main purpose of cryptocurrency is to have a money where you don't have to trust any central authority.

Backing them by anything else than cryptography seem counter-productive.

Everyone starts saying NXT right as I sell mine to mitigate losses... WHY!?

I can understand what people are thinking, it's just that the past performance wasn't as good as I was hoping for, and now I'm kind of stuck with where I am. I could go pick up a bit more NXT, but I'd kinda be pushing it if there isn't much more to help it along... Why is the price dropping anyways?

it's kind of new and relatively less people are holding it
you always have high volatility, because you addict to the few people who can manipulate the market in some way. Even on BTC you see that.
But the basic trend can't be manipulated...

My advice:
- buy low
- sell high only if you want to gamble
- just buy and forget. look at the price in 5 years to celebrate. Just imagine, if you were buying btc in 2010 for 50 cent and forgot it. If you followed the price, you would probably have sold it earlier and bite your ass.
- don't sell low in any case... it will high likely bottom out and recover
