One more question: Can I use one cable to give it power and set it up? Or will it try and pull the full load through that one cable? I have one coming tomorrow with one-day shipping but I'd like to set it up today if I could. Once again, thanks for all your time.

You can use 1 to set it up.

I hooked it up and tried to access the config page without success. How do you check your router's subnet? Through ipconfig? And how would you normally change it? I apologize for all the questions. I tried your alternate method with no success as well. I was ignorant to what I would have to do to get it to work. Thanks again.

Make sure you're powering the half that is powering the controller. Look for ethernet lights. Router subnet by cmd -> ipconfig /all

You said that only two connectors from the PSU are necessary, which I believe since I have seen people successfully using it. How can it supply enough power? I've read in many places that 8 pin has a max output of 150 watts. 366 watts is needed to power the miner. Where are the other 66 coming from??? And are you just using the 6 pin connector on your PSU? If so, do you use a molex to 6 pin connector? Thanks for all the info already!

They are 6 pin PCIE. Official rating for one is 75W, but they've been used for eons up to 150-200W each. In some rare cases, 300W. We're asking ~160W from each one.

So my 8 pin to 6+2 is essentially the same thing? Or can it provide twice as much power? Thanks!!!

Get an 8 to 2x6 pin Y cable.. problem solved Smiley

I am having a problem with my antminer,

Its a part of a network of 5 antminers all hooked up to my router.
I follow the instructions every tiime and it has worked for the other 4
I basically have to change the ip to 192.168.0.1 for it to connect to my regular routers settings but after that i change the settings to dhcp and everything is good to go.

this 5th antminer is the same up until i change to dhcp. I see it hashing on the pool but i am no longer able to connect to it using the ip address through my router or on direct connection..
I am literally doing nothing differnt then the others. It seems like the new one has a a newer os version, that is the only difference.

Currently it is hashing but i am un able to connect without resetting the whole thing....

any advice???

If you have a linux machine on the network, try tcpdump and watch the addresses that are communicating.  If you inadvertently punched in the wrong IP you should see it.  Also you might try nmap <subnet IP but last three digits a single * wildcard (e.g. 192.168.1.*)> which will list all devices on the subnet and which ports are open.  An S3 will show (Paragon Technologies) after the MAC Address on the last line of its scan.

My subnet is 10.0.1.1 (Which I changed from 10.0.0.1 since I wasn't 100% sure about your instructions) and I tried the alternate method and I still can't connect to the page, but I CAN connect to the page if I plug the Ethernet cable straight from the miner to my pc. I'm pretty clueless at what to do  Huh. Any help would be appreciated as soon as possible since Wednesday is my last normal day before I'm extremely busy. Thanks again.

Connect to PC, set DCHP, plug it back into router.

I tried that, but then I can't find the IP of the miner. I go on my router config page where it shows connections, and it appears, I just can't click on it like the others to view the IP, since there is no hostname to click on, even though the miner has one.
Edit: A weird thing is happening now. The miner was sitting powered on, and all of the sudden the fans spun faster, and the green light turned on. Looks like it started mining. Might have something to do with the fishy pool info that was already entered on the config page...

Hello,

I need some advice,

Got 4 new s3 in today, and decided to flash firmware,

Ive got 2 out of 20 that the flash didnt seem to work properly,,

When I log in, I get this:

/usr/lib/lua/luci/dispatcher.lua:448: Failed to execute function dispatcher target for entry '/'.
The called action terminated with an exception:
/usr/lib/lua/luci/sauth.lua:87: Session data invalid!
stack traceback:
   [C]: in function 'assert'
   /usr/lib/lua/luci/dispatcher.lua:448: in function 'dispatch'
   /usr/lib/lua/luci/dispatcher.lua:195: in function </usr/lib/lua/luci/dispatcher.lua:194>

I get the log in screen, enter the password and thats what I get,, Ive power cycled with no luck,, Is there anyway I can factory reset it?

Any help would be appreciated.

Also here is the second Issue:

when navigating to the GUI I get this:

Skip to navigation Skip to content

Navigation

System
Miner Configuration
Miner Status
Network

Overview
Administration
Monitor
Kernel Log
Upgrade
Reboot

Overview

_______________

If I click on any link I get:

Not Found

The requested URL /cgi-bin/minerConfiguration.cgi was not found on this server.

__________________

It appears that both are mining though the first one seems low poolside,,, However I am effectively locked out of either GUI.

Again any help would be appreciated.

Take a paperclip and use it to press the button inside the hole that is on the right of the Ethernet connector. Hold it for about 10 seconds and then turn off power and turn it back on.
Edit: forgot it was in the OP
How do I reset settings to default?   - Use a paperclip to press the reset button - located next to the ethernet connector - down for
5-10 seconds. The miner will then reset with stock settings.

Update with my problem: I entered the pool info and then changed it to DHCP, so I am mining right now, but the problem from my previous post still exists. Bonus question: I know this is probably a really stupid question, but how long is each round on slush's pool? Any help would be appreciated.

Hello again guys,

Are there any pools that work better for the Antminer S3? Which one do you recommend? What about difficulty?

I was with BTC guild running at 256 as well, until I found out about there 7% fee (or something like that). Right now, I'm trying ghash.io and plan on giving slush's pool a try. I do like ghash though. To compare, how much are you making on average (And are you overclocked)?

I plan on overclocking soon, but I have a question first. I'm powering my ant with one 8 to 6+2 pin and one 8 to 6+2 + 6+2 "L" cable (8 pin goes to 6+2, and that goes to another 6+2). Should I use this to overclock? Or is the the L cable essentially the same thing as the regular cable? And if you are going to overclock, don't you need 4, since the miner has 2 boards (two per board, even power distribution?) Thanks.
