I think gateways are a decent temporary hack, however I don't think the 'gateway' solution will be viable over the long term.
I good analogy is telephone and VOIP from the perspective of the '90s.
Even though this is a great move I wouldn't laud a bunch of praise on Stripe. They ban, shut down, and put restrictions on all Bitcoin companies using their service, citing "risk." It's sad that their CTO and the company do not share the same values, and there seems to be a major disconnect there.
