One of the biggest thing is for companies and non-profits to show that they are legit and are legitimately using the BTC for their charitable purposes.  In other words there need to be more proof that the non-profit is really receiving the Bitcoin.  This stuff about unlocking their computer sounds like total BS to be honest...

Wow, is it really that fricken hard to use Google?? Aside from not knowing how to do an internet search, do you not know how to send an email or make a phone call either? I did post the contact info for the charity in the OP, did you not see it?

Since people have such a hard time searching something to find out if they even know what they're talking about before attempting to discredit someone, and potentially causing a very well known, well meaning charity to loose donations, I'll give a hypothetical situation that might put into perspective why one would be inclined to pay a ransom to retrieve the contents of their computer.

Say I was able to somehow hack into your computer and find a folder that contained the only copy you had of your Bitcoin private key to a wallet containing 1,000 Bitcoin. I encrypt said folder with a 4096 PGP key with a 40 character pass phrase. I then send you an email stating if you send me one Bitcoin, I will send you the password to decrypt your folder. What would you do? Would you take your computer to your local computer geek and ask him to crack the password?? Well, who knows you probably would think that you could just do that. Roll Eyes

You do realize anyone can make a website, put pictures on it, put legit stuff on it, make if fully working, then ask for donations. Anyone can also answer a phone and pretend to be "anyone". I have made websites in some of my college courses and it isn't that hard to copy and paste source code from another website, register your own website, call it whatever the hell you want to make it seem legit, then grab a bunch of legit looking things. Granted you gotta shell out some money to host it and all that.

Just because you have "trust" on a forum doesn't mean you won't scam other people. Guess what, I am verified on http://www.robotzindisguise.com/forum/showthread.php?9439-PP-irobut-s-Gold-Shop-55-M  and could easily scam anyone I want. I don't do that though because I am a decent person. My forum footprint on there is way larger than yours on here.

I got unlimited botting for Runescape by competing in a very very LONG competition while working with tons of other people. So before you start lecturing us to just "fucking trust me bro I am a Hero member" how about you don't. I have seen people with more trust and higher rank and whatever scam people. Doesn't matter how much you are trusted, people really go out of their way to scam, and it is ALWAYS tempting to someone who isn't 100% against scamming. You're the one who red flagged yourself by saying a story that pretty much sounds like bullshit and might convince others. You legit had no reason to even mention that story, except to show some kind of Bravado/humble bragging. People who do that are not the people I classify as 100% trustworthy in my own experience, which severely out ranks what you have most likely been through.

just mah 2 sentz doe, nah'm Saiyan?

just mah 2 sentz doe, nah'm Saiyan?

I have to say, you are really showing your stupidity here! I'll respond to some quotes from you:

From another post:

All I see is someone that already knows their wrong. You keep talking out your ass but you won't take a few minutes to pick up a phone. Vetting the company yourself is quick and painless. You won't do that though. You'll just continue to bla, bla, bla like all trolls.

Just not interested in doing that like I said, good for you that you read what me and another person said who were wary about another scam, and you looked into it and found it to be legit. Would you have looked into it without me and another saying to be wary?

So I did my part and you did yours, we each contributed in a different way.

That is my viewpoint on this so... ya....

Make it a great day!

Right there shows that you are nothing but an asshole and a troll! You would come in this thread and start spewing all your bullshit, calling me a scammer when you aren't even willing to take a couple minutes to even verify if the site is legit or not! I would think that someone who is so quick to bash on other people's posts like you are would be the furthest thing from being a trustworthy person there is! I can promise you, I am definitely 100% against scamming, and would NEVER do it to anyone, PERIOD! You on the other hand, I somehow doubt it.

Quote
So before you start lecturing us to just "fucking trust me bro I am a Hero member" how about you don't.

Please point out where I mentioned anything about trusting me because I have "Hero" status?

And this next one is my absolute favorite!

Quote
You're the one who red flagged yourself by saying a story that pretty much sounds like bullshit and might convince others. You legit had no reason to even mention that story, except to show some kind of Bravado/humble bragging.

This really shows your stupidity! I guess I should've spelled it out for people like you! The whole point of telling the story was to point out how someone was scammed involving Bitcoin, (which was a negative, next comes the possitive) and ended up accepting Bitcoin donations in the end of it all!

I also like how you accuse me of "Bravado/humble bragging" when almost your entire post was you talking about yourself and your "forum footprint" on some other irrelevant forum! If we wanted to compare who has the biggest "forum footprint" somewhere else, I have you beat hands down! This Bitcointalk however, and we are talking about being scammed for Bitcoin, not battle bots!

Quote
People who do that are not the people I classify as 100% trustworthy in my own experience, which severely out ranks what you have most likely been through.

Again, I'm pretty sure I am WAY more trustworthy than you will ever be! If severely outranking my experiences means sitting in my moms basement building robots, trolling forums to try and make you feel good about yourself, (not doing a very good job at that btw) and doing whatever other unspeakable things people like you do down there, then yes you have me beat because I have never done any of those things! Well maybe I have done a few unspeakable things in my parents basement, but that was when I was under 18, and only living there because I had to! Wink

PS:Feel free to go through and correct my post too, as I don't have nearly as much time on my hands as you obviously do, I didn't really take the time to make sure everything was perfect, I have a life to attend to! Smiley

PSS: LOL! I fucking love your signature! I'm curious, do you even know what it means?? Roll Eyes

About a month ago I got a text from someone who saw my ad on Localbitcoins. Judging by the message the guy sent, I sorta had a bad feeling that I knew what they needed the Bitcoin for. I text the guy back and said

"Don't tell me that you are buying Bitcoin to unlock your computer from a ransomware!?"

The guy responded back

"Ok, I won't, and I won't say that it starts Crypto either"  (For the skeptics who don't know how to use Google, the ransomware was Cryptodefender.)

He then text back telling me that he was working on behalf of the local Boy's & Girl's Club of America, and that the computer that was locked was their accounting PC, and that they needed to get in it ASAP. I then sold them the Bitcoin

I stopped reading right there. Ransomware scams take your money, but the computer never gets unlocked.

I was thinking kind of the same thing, only I didn't think of it in that way. ALMOST always the ransomware does indeed still stay on the computer and does not unlock it. I gotta agree with you there. If they did "unlock the computer" what is to stop the ransomware thieves from "locking" it again you know? They could easily say ok it has been a few days we are locking you down again = more money.

At least when I say you could be a scammer I leave room for me to be wrong. You don't know anything about me lol.

Instead of just coming on here and saying straight up that I COULD be a scammer, why not take the few minutes required to verify your suspicions first rather than making such a ridiculous post?

Since you are obviously from the US, I find it very hard to believe that you have never heard of the Boys & Girls Club of America!

Because I would imagine most people who have this happen to them would probably:

A) Do a complete scan/sweep/total OS re-installation of the infected machine once the files have been retrieved.

B) Make backups of everything, and implement a plan to backup regularly.

Then the only way for their computer to get locked again would be to click a malicious link again, in which case it wouldn't matter because they have made a full backup!

I haven't seen many people dox themselves before. Is this your blog? http://www.personal.psu.edu/aog5271/blogs/english15/
and your LinkedIn: http://www.linkedin.com/pub/andrew-gray/28/67/24a?_mSplash=1

I also found your phone number, your email and your address. If I were you I would probably consider deleting the dox posts above and I'll delete this post. I may think your a dick but it's not always safe to be doxed. Especially if one of your pastimes is to stir up shit on a forums.

You should use that old blog to push Bitcoin now that you're into it.

https://www.linkedin.com/pub/andrew-gray/61/8bb/810 if you must know, or maybe it isn't. No one did anything to Karpeles and he kinda scammed hundreds of millions of dollars. You would think "something would have happened" by the way you talk to scary over the internet.

but like i said in other posts, i dont use my real username and i either copy someone elses or grab stuff from their facebook.

maybe my first name is Bob. doxxing stuff is honestly really stupid, and if you ever did find me what are you going to do. get mad at me for posting on forums and fight me. really? thats how immature you are? i carry buddy, and i have flash bang rounds in my shotgun(https://www.google.ca/search?q=flash+thunder+12+gauge+shotgun+rounds&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ei=bIbaU8WLBISTyATZwYDoBg&ved=0CAYQ_AUoAQ&biw=1007&bih=560) and an alarm system where i live. its like really your going to vaguely threaten someone over the internet because they didnt take the "course of action" that you took to figure out if the boys and girls club is real?

thats like immatureness to a whole new level thats just now invented dude.

PS, and i legit copied and pasted that google linke for you. if that ".ca" doesn't give you super sleuths a hint i dont know what will. jesus h.

I didn't start this shit, you did, and you certainly don't know me either! I take my reputation VERY seriously, and when someone accuses me of being a scammer, I get extremely offended and will defend myself to the end! You say a trust rating means nothing, which you are right, it doesn't for many reason like people padding and the like, but if you bothered to look at mine, it's pretty clear that I am not a scammer, and it is clearly not padded or faked either. There is nothing I hate more than a fucking low life bottom feeding scumbag who makes a living out of stealing from other people to support themselves!

The second lowest form of scum is people who think they know everything, and are too lazy/stupid/arrogant to find out if they are right about something before spewing their opinions on others!

ummm... i didnt accuse you of being a scammer i said i was wary of it. i dont like scammers either. but a very reputable person wouldn't get this emotional over someone like me and two others warning of a potential scam. dude go to any page on here, if someone is saying "X" and donate to this to help this, everyone on that pages is questioning it. DO YOU NOT NOTICE THIS HAPPENS ON EVERY POST?Huh?

I never said i knew everything or even acted like it, stop projecting your grasp of the situation on me. those arent the facts lol. 2 others also are wary about your post. the unnoficial motto for BTC is TRUST NO ONE AND KEEP CALM, or KEEP CALM AND TRUST NO ONE. you are asking us to trust a post, then you dont keep calm when someone says to be wary and cautious... cmon man... really? this is the internet where people go to great lengths to get a few hundred bucks here and there, everyone should be wary no matter how legit something seems or is. even legit things go belly up all the time in the virtual currency world so chill it man.

people who defend themselves to no end are what everyone likes to call "close minded". you're wrong in how you responded to everything i said and you over reacted dude. it just proves you were humble bragging and trying to show off because you have hero rank. you're constantly trying to pull your "trust" and "rank" on me in these conversations. i didnt do that to you until you did it to me. its just a forum and you might have donated your BTC when it was worth a lot less so chill. to become a hero by donating, that money would have been better spent donating it to charity. so you obviously get off on having a rank on a forum where you can be faceless and demand others respect you.

if you were SOOO above board, and SOOO trusted, and SOOO nice, and SOOO "X" then you wouldn't be sabotaging your OWN TOPIC by swearing and talking down to others. your true colors came out and you are a nasty person. sure you might come off as nice and caring to people who dont question you, this is the internet, this is bitcoin, prepare for questions, prepare for answers(nice and friendly answers). you are a TERRIBLE PR person for this. If I happened to have screen capped(and I saved both forum pages) all the stuff you just said here and sent it to them today, which I am really thinking of hitting send, how do you think they would feel about you? huh??

calm your snake ass down. i have no reason to sabotage anything on this since it has been revealed as legit. just leave it there and i will leave it alone too.

SsssssSssssnake.

Oh good, as I suspected your just a lying stupid kid. Carry on.

nope not a kid. and i do carry a glock single stack pistol 9mm. i also own a M35 12 gauge with flash bang rounds(i included the link) type it in in google and you will see you can buy some good ones for 4 to 5 bucks a round. my shotgun also has a side rack where i keep the flash bang rounds + slugs on the side. buckshot is loaded in the gun to begin with ofc, gotta keep the lethals in. slugs are for penetrating my own walls if someone breaks in im not firing buckshot through a wall/door obviously. flashbang round is for extreme measures or multiple people.

to each their own man.

i never saw a kid walking around talking sarcastically in the tone i do while calling someone a "super sleuth" or even a "sleuth" for that matter. you havent either so dont lie and say you have.

you just cant take it that you are not smart enough to come up with a response other than dismissing someone. i can dismiss you are a little kid too, but i didnt devolve into that low of a thought process. obviously you just did. whose the kid here, you searched me on google and got results, the results you posted were to TWO different people lol...very impressive.

Oh dear goodness I caused quite a commotion.  I am all in favor of helping legit charities, I was saying your story sounded like crap.  I also think that anyone can make a website that says anything.  I guess my advice was just that before donating, the donator should check the website, and call and discuss this with someone at the alleged charity.

OP you did take it rather poorly, even with the name QuestionAuthority?

I'm sorry we don't see it the same way! I do not owe you an apology for anything as far as I'm concerned! Why don't you apologize for pointlessly spreading fud? The amount of time you invested in posting in here now you could've done enough research on B&GC to write a fricken novel about them!

Your entire first statement in my thread was 100% completely and totally false! It's not even an opinion, it's an outright false statement, which just by itself shows something about who you are! Whether it's just plain laziness, or that you are just too arrogant to bother researching something because "you know, therefore it must be true!" I can't really say for sure, only you know the answer to that.

Someone is messaging you to buy bitcoins to unlock their computer from ransom ware?(question)... that makes NO sense.(opinion) You don't actually pay the ransom, you just take it to someone who removes viruses, or you plug the drive in as a slave and download everything, or purposefully crash the operating system so the virus can't function, or start in safe mode, or any number of things that can be googled and even simple people should think to search the internet for the answer first...(statement) Buying bitcoin is a little more complicated to understand than taking it somewehre to get a virus removed from your "din dang computah i reckon mmm hmm".(opinion) But as soon as I read you "sold" bitcoins to a guy so he could unlock his computer for ransomware, that raises a huge RED FLAG.(opinion)

As to the next statement, you could've very easily proven me RIGHT, but instead you chose to go another route, which really has made you look like a fool!

This makes me think you are scamming but with a cover and anyone can make a site for themselves, I can't really prove you right or wrong either way.(opinion)

Lastly, to address your earlier statement about sending a screenshot of what I wrote to them, feel free! They actually already have the link to the thread, and I assure you, I won't delete anything! The way I see it, I was defending them from trolls. Maybe they will see it the same way I do, and maybe they won't, who knows? The fact of the matter is, they've already started accepting Bitcoin, and have received a $1,000 donation from Bitcoin100, plus whatever QA and anyone else has sent so it doesn't really matter now, does it?? Regardless of what you or anyone else thinks, I did in fact help 2 entities come together and help one another out in a big way.

Now you go and have yourself a wonderful rest of your evening!

I don't have to worry about that and you do not deserve to even post a topic about such a great organization.

That isn't how you get people to donate something and you are doing a horrible job at it because you are a f-ing a-hole who is humble bragging but not admitting it(which they never do).

Since you are tarnishing their good name, I have taken screenshots of everything you said, uploaded them to tinypic and emailed them, and sent them the link to this. It is a very sad day when you have to act like a fool and could have just nicely said "here is how you can prove it" and smiled and said thank you after it. Then I would have said oh ok sweet thanks for proving it man. But you didn't. I gave you the chance to apologize, to be a bigger man, to stop acting like a fool. If you don't know what foreshadowing is, man, you are really in a bad way. How could you not see that was foreshadowing when I told you I would do this from the beginning. You only have yourself to blame for your own misconduct.

If you would've bothered to actually read the entire first post before going off like you did, you would've seen that I did indeed put everything you needed to find out if they were legit or not. Instead you chose to do what you did for whatever reason when you yourself could've nicely asked me to provide more proof. Your post was not at all written in a way that you were kindly asking for proof, you were being an arrogant prick, which you have continued to do since. To show that you were wrong, and are sorry about it, why don't you go there and make a donation yourself? I already have. Obviously I am not the only one who feels the same way about you. It actually appears that because you are unable to admit that YOU were wrong, you had to resort to threats rather than apologize. Whatever man, to each their own I guess!

What a fantasy world you live in where you can call people names and they should just respect you and take it because its for charity. Delusions of granduer buddy.

Even though you deleted your posts, like I said I screen capped and sent them 5 pics uploaded to tinypic. I also saved both pages as .html files so I got it all, including what is in my quotes.

I love how you only act like a decent adult human being after someone gives you two chances to apologize, then has to inform the organization you are representing on their behalf for BTC and tell them how rude and nasty you are, then you taunt me with saying "go ahead and tell them they have a link to this". Then when I really do tell them you delete all your posts that were nasty and don't apologize for putting their BTC donations in jeopardy. You are an amateur, a novice, a bully, and an a-hole. You don't know how to properly conduct yourself over the internet and should feel ashamed. I hope you learned a lesson from all this, I really hope you grew up more.

Because if you didn't it is really pathetic that even after ALL OF THAT, you won't admit any wrong doing.
