Antminer S2 -- just crapped out on me -- help -

Hi all -

I have 2 S2's -- purchased just 2 weeks apart - back in early June .
The first ordered S2 antminer (order # 00120140617210324211R5oX3cPM0667)  has suddenly stopped working -- it will turn on, but then turn off after about 5 minutes.

I have opened it up, disconnected the PSU - let cool off for 3 days then tried again. - turns on for 5 minutes then completed turns off, no power at all.  The 10 blades don't even turn on (no blue light on chip boards) during the initial 5 minutes. -- So, I think I might need a new PSU but then again it could be the mother board. - or is it just a simple PSU issue?

BITMAIN has been contacted THREE TIMES and has NOT gotten back to me -- I'm out almost $1800.00 here ---

Has anyone has any luck with other PSU's? -- if so which ones? - and I noticed there are 2 PCI-E connectors and 2 twelve pin connectors (NOT The standard 10). These last two connectors are the hard ones to fit. 

Any advice would be appreciated -- thank you --

I've read about this problem and it's usually the power supply. If you end up replacing it yourself get more wattage so you have room to over clock if you choose.

Perhaps removing some of the cards will allow it to boot up

Hi,
my S2 suddenly stopped after have been working for few weeks. Now it shuts down in few minutes after powering on.
I also wrote to Bitmaintech, but yet not got an answer, so I did the following:
1) Reset the settings to factory defaults - not helped.
2) Updated the firmware - not helped.
3) Downclocked the frequencies - yet no success.
4) Removed 1 blade - 90% hashrate, but it started to work.

Now I'm waiting for BitmainTech's support  response.
 

So, you may try to just pull out 1 blade for now..

As it has been said before me, first of all try to replace a PSU to at least 1200 W.

if the miner starts up and shuts down, it is almost certainly bad PSU. You do not need to wait for it to cool down for more than 5 min. Just take out the power cord, take out and reinsert the jumper, and you can start the system again.
The easiest check is to remove one or two blades, and if it works at 80-90%, then grab a more powerful PSU and you will be fine. They did a very bad job putting in 1000W PSU when the system requires over 900W.

Maybe it's all about the price of the miner? But in such case they indeed should better sell their miners without PSU at all...

Have you tried to reset them, doing a hardware reset?  I've had to do this on one of mine before.  There is button, near the wireless adapter, it's a small black button that says 's2' underneath it.  Make sure it's powered on and get something small and non-conductive and press it in for about 15 to 30 seconds.  Make sure it's pressed for the entirety of that time.  After 15 to 30 seconds are up, wait about another 60 seconds, power it off, unplug it from the PSU and give it 10-15 seconds for the power to leave the capacitors and such and then plug everything back in and start it back up.

This -SHOULD- take care of your issue, I thought I had bricked mine; however, by using personal knowledge and working on a lot of hardware in my lifetime I discovered it after looking around for a minute.

This should also make it go back to the 192.168.1.99 IP address, so depending on how your network is configured, you may have to go through and reconfigure it as needed again.

AntMiner S2 does not have wireless adaptor AFAIK.

I copied and pasted from another thread with the same problem.  So scratch that portion, but it's on the MAIN board, where on the S1 the wireless adapter would be.  It's the mainboard where the NIC would be then, but there IS a hardware reset button that is very small and is black and is a push button.

I am sorry I am very confused with what you mean by 12 pin connectors. There is a total of 6 6-pin PCI-E connectors on the motherboard, so any PSU with about 1200W or 1250W and 6 PCI-e connectors would work. Some of them come with 8-pin PCI-E connectors but that can be solved easily by grabbing an adapter. Make sure that the one you choose has all power available on 12V rails. As for examples: Thermaltake, Corsair, Cooler Master, EVGA, BFG, etc.
Note that new units are quite costly. I personally grabbed a used PSU from eBay. There is always a risk to get a defective unit (both new and used) but you will now quickly
