After reading the news, I was ready to donate 200'000 bits but changed my mind after realizing that they want my physical and email address. For f***s sake, the whole point of donating with BTC is that it can be done in 10 seconds. I for one won't donate like this.

Does this have some regulatory reasons, or KYC... or KYD? I mean maybe they need those information in order to comply with some donation laws or something. Does anyone know anything about this?

Put a BTC address up and watch it fill up, just like setting out a donation tin. No ID required.

Saying that you don't trust someone because of their behavior is completely valid.

Using fake information is always something you can consider if you do not feel confident enough to use your real details. I know I would be curious to know why they wanted my details rather than me just being able to donate the amount I wished to and that be it.

Just use a fake name generator. i agree they shouldn't be collecting info but from there point they want to make sure they have contact info so they can double dip. Say next month or year they may contact you for a second donation. From there side if they get even 10% to redonate they surely happy.

That's probably the reason. Don't think the KYC applies to non-profit charitable organisation (there may be some donation threshold though, when some info is required).
As long as they don't ask you for the copy of id - I don't see a problem, but if such info is not required by law, they should make it optional.

+1 except for using the weirdo term "bits".
Accepting BTC doesn't require an email address from the customer. Why don't they just post their BTC address?

Nobody is going to send money to that. I don't know why people were so eager to send wiki coins anyway.

Wikimedia is really great voluntary organization and their free online encyclopedia is great free resources for users so I would always support such project.
Of course, it will be better if they didn't ask for email and name, but still we are not required to give real details.
If you like them- support, if not, don't support.
