On the front end f shapeshift, it says there is a minimum amount for each currency. This minimum amount is not listed in the API anywhere. How is this minimum value calculated. Is it pegged to a USD value? I noticed the bitcoin minimum is 4218 satoshis, which is about 1 penny. Are all currencies set to a one penny minimum?

Also, I'm unfortunately going to have to remove shapeshift.io integration from my project because of the new minimum amount requirement. The way my app works, is it sends lots and lots of small amounts from many senders, but to a relatively small number of recipients. Most shifts from me will be $0.05 and less. Most probably under $0.01

Maybe if shapeshift.io worked such that it keeps shifts under the minimum internally until the total amount exceeds the minimum, then makes the deposit.

Hello Coinsentry,

The minimum is based on the miner fee of the outgoing currency. Basically, if there is a miner fee of 0.0001 BTC on the output, it doesn't make sense to accept any transaction that would only send 0.0001 BTC.  Our rule is we set the min at 2x the fee of the output currency. Accepting an order below that would mean more than half the user's output value would be eaten by the miner fee alone, and it just doesn't seem reasonable to do such transactions.

We can consider your suggestion to accept small amounts until they exceed the maximum, but honestly the total volume of such transactions means it's not really economically rational to spend time on such a thing. If you knew you'd be pushing a certain volume through the API using that feature, then please email us and we can discuss it further. mail at shapeshift.io

And thanks very much for your feedback!

The best thing about ShapeShift is the ability to turn any currency into another and not have to exchange through more than a single market. That's awesome. The fee is quite high, but hey, you're providing a great service.

Thanks!

I'm developing some software around the ShapeShift.io service and would like to be able to programatically convert coins from one type to another. I don't see a way to get a deposit address from your API. Any chance of this being implemented?

Hi Cypherpunk38 - this is actually in our API already (https://shapeshift.io/api.html#shift-conduit), you would use the following call for a normal conduit which would let you generate a deposit address:

url:  shapeshift.io/shift
method: POST
data type: JSON
data required:
withdrawal    = the address for resulting coin to be sent to
pair       = what coins are being exchanged in the form <input coin>_<output coin>  ie btc_ltc
returnAddress    = (Optional) address to return deposit to if anything goes wrong with exchange
destTag    = (Optional) Destination tag that you want appended to a Ripple payment to you
rsAddress    = (Optional) For new NXT accounts to be funded, you supply this on NXT payment to you
apiKey    = (Optional) Your affiliate PUBLIC KEY, for volume tracking, affiliate payments, split-shifts, etc...

example data: {"withdrawal":"AAAAAAAAAAAAA", "pair":"btc_ltc", returnAddress:"BBBBBBBBBBB"}

Success Output:
    {
        deposit: <Deposit Address (or memo field if input coin is BTS / BITUSD)>,
        depositType: <Deposit Type (input coin symbol)>,
        withdrawal: <Withdrawal Address>, //-- will match address submitted in post
        withdrawalType: <Withdrawal Type (output coin symbol)>,
        public: <NXT RS-Address pubkey (if input coin is NXT)>,
        xrpDestTag : <xrpDestTag (if input coin is XRP)>,
        apiPubKey: <public API attached to this shift, if one was given>
    }

Let us know if you have any questions on this but it should be what you are looking for.

Thanks for using ShapeShift!

Ops sorry bud I wasn't making a recommendation or anything.  I was just killing two birds with one post Tongue

Ha ha Well before you buy anything you should def look to see if you already have some free CLAMS.  If you had Bitcoin, Litecoin or Dogecoin on May 12, 2014 then you already own free CLAMS (they are attached to the Bitcoin private keys.)

Shapeshifter.io is a good service.  I haven't seen any complaints in Just-dice when they do have CLAMS for sale or are buying CLAMS.

I would and do recommend Shapeshifter.

That special casino is pretty special in my opinion too.  The site itself is great, but the admin who runs it is god sent (dooglus).

Just-dice at one point was open with Bitcoin and held over 60,000 BTC.  JD ended up closing for a little bit and everyone got their Bitcoins back.

CLAM is just a freedom of speech/religion internet play token, but fun and interesting. (it's similar to DOGE done properly & includes all three major coins)
