It is a common myth that Bitcoin is ruled by a majority of miners. This is not true. Bitcoin miners "vote" on the ordering of transactions, but that's all they do. They can't vote to change the network rules.

Ripple looks better and has more functions for the time being. I guess Stellar is just starting out.

Stellar forked from Ripple because they thought they knew better. Threw their toys out of the pram in the process.

Stellar's website is good - that's it.

Ripple's people are far higher quality and the have much more connections. Ripple is on track to become the world's first legitimate crypto currency. Stellar have a huge amount of catching up to do.

Ripple does have its advantages, but it is still quite a distance away from Bitcoin.

Anyone here heard about any news on Stellar?  The coin seems a bit quiet, at least I could not google any info

There's not much in the news, but STR got included on Bittrex few days ago:
https://bittrex.com/Market/?MarketName=BTC-STR

This is one of the major altcoin exchanges, volume will eventually build up. It's more important to be traded then to be in the news.

Hopefully so, I hope for more worthy competitors for Bitcoins, competition makes all on their toes and ensure better services for all of us.

Bittrex does not have much volume, that's why it rose to 16K sats earlier.

Stellar will serve as a useful warning to anyone else who thinks they know how to do crypto better than Ripple.

I feel sorry, not for Stellar, but for the folks who lost their money.
