For people who use gmail, don't forget you are giving up your privacy for free service.

You can be sure the other big players do the same. Gmail is just a bit more upfront about it.

I prefer Gmail since I have a Chromebook. It auto-syncs on my Chromebook, tablet and phone so I don't use anything else.

Thanks for the story links this is why I wanted to find a better free or paid email host. I know a lot of people use .pp and .gmx and was wondering why.

Buy a domain, buy a offshore vps or offshore hosting or use a spare pc in your home and become the email provider yourself.
This is not a good idea, there is no way in hell you can get this secure enough, even if you know what you're doing.
2nd problem is, most mail provider you send mails to will treat your mail as spam.

2nd problem is not true, it depends on your hosting ip. If your hosting ip is flagged as source of spam your email will be flagged, but if you are using clean hosting ip your ip won't be mark as spam.

I find Gmail is best out there. I have tried yahoo, outlook, mail.com and some others but they can't beat the gmail.

I've just switched to https://posteo.de.

It's a small provider in berlin/germany. It's not free, but for 1 euro/month you don't get any ads.

Unfortunately I think you get lost on their website if you can't understand german.  Smiley

The guardian has written something about them: http://www.theguardian.com/technology/2014/aug/24/posteo-protect-email-the-german-way-patrik-lohr

IMO gmail is the best major email service provider, they are easy to use, good spam filtering and convenient. There might be some good quality but smaller options though.

OpenMailbox.org is decent, but the network goes down on occasion. They say they don't log you and they aren't in the states.

Due to an article that BitcoinTalk didn't like that I wrote on CCN, my account is banned. Theymos refuses to reply to my request for hearing his side of the story instead of banning my account. Please sign my petition to get Theymos to unban my account. Thank you.
