You'd fry your phone if you tried to. Is it possible to mine using a smartphone? Ive seen some mining apps and curious if anyone has actually tried it
no. it is not possible to mining with smartphone, because the mining need high spesification in laptop or PC Mining on a PC or Laptop is still toxic. Unless your talking about a Altcoin. You can't use a graphics card for Bitcoin anymore; It isn't 2012. Unless you have a few TH/s your return would be so small it would go lower than Cex's.

So mining is no bueno? But when i look at blockchain.info i see hella transactions. Whats the most convenient way of aquiring bitcoins without mining or faucets?
Buying. Buying is truly the easiest and often the most profitable decision to make. Just buy and then stick your coins in cold storage. You'll end up with a larger amount of bitcoins for your money spent than most people, trust me.

Makes no sense to try and mine btc nowadays, even with a huge mining rig you would be struggling to make any profit.

It is also easy to overheat your laptop with mining, and so you shouldn't do it at all. Mining asic resistant coins with GPU in a PC is okay, but you will need to have cheap electricity to have profit.

What if the alto is very simple, talking about alt coins? Will a smartphone be able to mine alt coins if the difficulty is very low always and the algorithm is very simple? I am not a specialist, I'm just asking

Remember that you are competing against other miners for the mining revenue. If you are mining on a smartphone and other miners are mining with ASICs, you won't earn much. As for burning out your phone: the processing power spent mining depends on the mining software and not on the difficulty. You can make the mining software limit itself so that it doesn't heat up the phone. Unfortunately, that will also reduce the amount you mine (unless you are the only miner).

Just a sidenote, i tried mining for 1 hour at my galaxy s2.
All i got was my cellphone working near 70º celsius and the fear of loosing a smartphone for nothing.
There's few faucets that is worth to use it like a hour per day .
But to be honest if you want to enter in this world you have to invest a little at least.

It won't be possible. Now mining with old PC is not possible also. For mining you need PC high configuration and Graphics card. So think about PC and forget about Smartphone.

Even a PC might fry with the mining difficulty now-a-days. A smartphone? BOOM.

I advice NOT to mine with a smartphone. My friend was doing some experiments coding a version of cgminer for his s4 and guess what, he fried the CPU. PoW is just not for smartphones, it's pointless.

Your smartphone will burn out itself before you can get any significant amount of bitcoin. Even altcoin mining is not profitable with a smartphone.

It is pointless to experiment on a CPU which is designed to be operated at low power and low efficiency with no cooling. Even PoS is pointless since you can't run it unless you have lots of ram and space for blockchain.

Even a PC might fry with the mining difficulty now-a-days. A smartphone? BOOM. As odolvlobo explained, the mining difficulty only affects the number of coins you mined but not the heat generated or power consumption. So if you PC is overheated mining bitcoin now, the same PC under the same configuration would be overheated mining 2 years ago.

If mining with a pencil and paper ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y3dqhixzGVo) is possible, I'm sure a smartphone can mine. But I can guarantee you it won't be effective. You're just going to waste power and life of your phone.
