There are thousands of altcoins out there.

But Which of them are you confident about?
On which you will put your money into and hold it?
Why do you think so?

Can you select the best altcoins in the market?

Eg. DOGE, DRK, Stellar , ...

I'd say bitcoin but its not really an alto coin so then maybe litecoin. It has the network and is largely reconsidered buy people. Merchants actually accept it too.

Stellar is the best at the moment, it is traded in high volumes and hasn't hit any big exchanges yet.
For the future I'm thinking about XMR (Monero).

agreed.
analyst the market, choose the altcoin, browse all about the altcoin(it's real or scam),
think smart, and always learn from mistakes.
also active in forum to get news about the coin.
and don't forget, trading altcoin is full uncertainty.

For ~ $30 or 0.05 BTC, you can buy 10+ Unobtanium.  Relatively low risk and high potential.

Uno still under the radar by most. You want to be in the coin before it is up 10x

what makes uno different is the low sellpressure since it has close to no inflation. Also very fair coin with no premine and good distribution. Very good fundamentals.

If you want to play safe look here http://coinmarketcap.com/ then sort by trading volume, market cap.

As always, invest only what you can afford to lose.

Litecoin is the clear 2nd best with 2nd best network effort.  Really none of the alts currently offer anything radically new.

OP do not listen to people like this one. Stellar is definitely one of the worst, although the 2nd part is correct. It is being traded/dumped onto smaller exchanges that currently accept it.
Monero is actually pretty decent.
If you want to play safe look here http://coinmarketcap.com/ then sort by trading volume, market cap.
As always, invest only what you can afford to lose.
Like he said, use this to know which coins are popular/known then do your own research and invest accordingly. Do not invest in something like LTC or Ripple just because it has a high market cap among the altcoins (doing so would be a mistake).
XMR, DRK
Investing in this should not burn you/will make you profit, but do not follow my words. Just take them as a tip and do your own investing later on.

If you want buy some altcoin, just choose NXT.You know why!

Or if you don't want to throw in a lot of BTC atm, you can buy some NFD Coin as a "starter package" for the Nxt technology. It's a plain Nxt clone, admittedly with a bare-bones ecosystem at the moment, but it's really cheap on Bter right now. You can get a lot of NFD for 0.1, 0.05 or even 0.01 BTC.

If you like what you see, and see the possibilities of the Gen-2 infrastructure, you can "trade up" to Nxt itself later.

Official NFD thread: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=603932.new

XCurrency is the real deal for me.
And i don't jump on new alts every 2 weeks.
Decentralisation and privacy is most important to me in every aspect of didgital life and XC has the by far best platform thought out to support that in the future imo.

it sounds like "what is better: vine or vodka?"

There are a lot of currencies now and even if we take out from list all scamcoins(known and unknown) there will be a lot. they are specific and many are designed for their purposes.  So there are no one "best altcoin". You need to find 2-3 and keep them together. It's the best way i think.
