Dude, these are freaking cookies and it's hardly unusual for the Southern activist groups to send goodies, usd, dvds and other things to the North hoping that his helps inspire change. I suppose incrementally that it helps but when the population has no guns plus prison camps for anti-state crimes, very few will lead a charge.

Have you read the article?

The UN food body on Saturday said it had approved $200 million of food aid for North Korea, targeting the country's most vulnerable people who remain dependent on external assistance.

The World Food Programme (WFP) executive board has this week approved a new two-year operation for North Korea starting on July 1, WFP spokesman Marcus Prior said.

"It will target about 2.4 million people - almost all children, and pregnant and nursing women - with about 207,000 metric tons of food assistance at a cost of US$200 million," he said in an email to AFP.

Is that enough to help to a country which is constantly harassing you with it's military plans?

no one is starving, these are stories from 1994 - 2000 being repeated in the media by anti dprk sources. in recent years north koreans have seen great improvements in their living standards under the guidance of leaders kim jong il and kim jong un.

yeah . they are shooting them as traitors before starving so nobody can say people are suffering from hunger Wink

Although it's been aiming bellicose rhetoric -- not to mention, missiles -- at the United States and South Korea lately, North Korea is now singing a different tune for some of its neighbors. Pyongyang's new ambassador to Mongolia officially asked for food aid for North Korea last week.

“North Korea may face severe food shortage. Therefore, we ask Mongolia to learn possibilities of delivering food aid to North Korea," North Korea's ambassador to Mongolia Hong Gyu said in a statement posted on the official website of the Mongolian president.

North Korea has ordered all its embassies to appeal to foreign governments for food aid in a sign of growing desperation in Pyongyang, according to diplomatic sources.

This direct approach to foreign capitals, launched in December, is highly unusual for the insular and totalitarian regime, which normally negotiates deliveries of food assistance with international organisations such as the World Food Programme.

There has been some improvement in the past 10 years or so. But a significant portion of the population still does not have enough to eat (may be one-third of the population or 8 million people).

i find it strange that they send chocopies to a country of people who are malnourished and starving. chocopies are not going to help.. give them something with more nutritional value.

Have you read the article?

Is that enough to help to a country which is constantly harassing you with it's military plans?

what about it? still doesnt' change the fact that if i'm sending "food" to starving people, it won't be chocolate pies.

Obviously you don't have a clue what a message means
This was a protest aimed at a ban against chocolate imposed by the north Korean government. Nobody claimed it was going to help starving people.

And before criticizing the move , how many kilos of food have you sent to NK?

what about it? still doesnt' change the fact that if i'm sending "food" to starving people, it won't be chocolate pies.

There is a story behind it. The choco-pie barter system originated in the Kaesong Industrial Region, where tens of thousands of North Koreans work for their South Korean employers. The South Koreans are not allowed to transfer money directly to their workers. So in order to reward them for overtime.etc they used to give them choco pies and other packaged food, which is hard to obtain in DPRK.

i find it strange that they send chocopies to a country of people who are malnourished and starving. chocopies are not going to help.. give them something with more nutritional value.
Since the North folk like them so much, it really entices them to open up these packages and check out the propaganda when otherwise they'd be afraid to.

no one is starving, these are stories from 1994 - 2000 being repeated in the media by anti dprk sources.

There has been some improvement in the past 10 years or so. But a significant portion of the population still does not have enough to eat (may be one-third of the population or 8 million people).
There are many too many people in NK that are hungry. It may not be to the point they are "starving" but it is very bad.

there are still shortages (not starvation) due to the army first policy which diverts resources to the military but this is absolutely essential for warding off imperialist aggression. koreans understand fully that their sacrifices ensure the survival of their nation and socialist system and for this reason even during the famine when up to a million died there was no hint of rebellion against the leadership. kim jong il will be remembered alongside napoleon and alexander as military genius for developing the army first politics.

Remembered by who?
By those that have starved?
You nkorean propaganda isn't going to to work on this forum. You're wasting your time.

Hm... It seems he's from DPRK. It's interesting that the most of (~80%) Korean migrants in Russia are from DPRK.

The most of them are talking like saddampbuh during the first week.

This sounds like a very creative way to spread propaganda in North Korea (I don't think it would be false). Do you have any stats on how well this works to spread propaganda?

I think people hate North Korea so much, that they forget that the people there are the biggest victims. They are brainwashed their whole life and live in a poverty more extreme than central africa!

people need to distinguish government from a group of people. i am american, and my government does not represent my thoughts and feelings, so don't blame me for invading other countries.

Exactly, but emotions blur the mind and let become otherwise rational people the extreme opposite.

Another example is companies. Just because you hate your ISP you don't need to hate the support workers and let it out on them...
