Just got back from the midnight showing of Hunger Games. Good movie, but falls way short of the book.

I really enjoyed the book. Once I got started, I couldn't put it down until I finished it. Luckily, it's an easy read and only took a few hours.
Having said that, I thought the first part of the book was better than the second half. The first part establishes the premise of the elites exploiting the lower classes for the purposes of entertainment and social control. In the second half, the competitors start "playing to the camera" in the hope of getting useful things parachuted down to them, which I thought cheapened the plot.
Despite that, I'm looking forward to seeing the movie.

While I agree with you wholeheartedly, there are a few exceptions to that rule. The Road and Let The Right One In are some recent examples where the movie was even better than the book. We'll just have to see about this one. |

It's 99.9% faithful to the book. It's like they're trying to single-handedly make up for every disappointing TV/movie book translation I've ever seen. |

I read all three books in a week and a half, I just couldn't put them down. I'm seeing the movie later this week with a few friends. From what I hear the movie has lots action but doesn't focus on the emotions enough.

(comparing book and movie that is.. Lotr was a good fantasy movie, but a shame to compare it to the book..) Michael Crichton books always make good movies... Anyway.. going to watch that movie sometime when it comes out on DVD - just ordered the book |
