The latest craze is a boon to mom-and-pop businesses.

Quote
Mobs are descending on mom-and-pop businesses around the country, and now even in the Bay Area.

They’re called “Cash Mobs.” They're groups of strangers, connecting through social networking, meeting at a location and going into a local store, each spending at least $10.

Like, WTF! Imagine if we, as bitcoiners, borrowed a page from their playbook.

Once a transaction has 6 confirmations, it is extremely unlikely that an attacker without at least 50% of the network's computation power would be able to reverse it.

You could do a "snowball" effect in saying if I show up you have to add another $5 to your order and so on ....  Shocked

Yep! Like that guy. First time I saw that, otherwise I wouldn't have started a thread on it.

But, since we are at this point, let's see if I can offer up a solution on getting a critical mass of people to flock to one establishment, then having them all use bitcoins for their purchases as well as having the shop owner accept bitcoins, all in one full swoop. Impossible, you say? I bet I can convince you it's possible before you get to my sig on this post.

How? Via a designated bitcoiner. I believe I just convinced half the readers without them reading any further, but I'll explain to drive the point home to the other half. I'll type slow, thereby allowing you, the slower half, to absorb the full concept.

Organize a Cash Mob the same way you normally would, but telling them that they'll all be paying for their meals at Cafe Joe's using Bitcoin. Inform them that if they don't have any bitcoins or, for that matter, know what they are, not to worry, for bitcoins will be provided to each and every one of them. The owner/manager of Cafe Joe's will have no idea that a hungry mob is coming, let alone going to pay with, what he may consider, funny money. But the beauty of this is that he will not turn away the mob and accept the bitcoins with open arms. I bet you're still waiting for the 'how' moment, aren't you? Here it is: The designated bitcoiner has on his person more than enough fiat and bitcoins to make the whole thing work. In essence, he's acting as a temporary banker. Before the first order is placed, the bitcoiner, now banker, hands over X dollars to the manager, a sum that should surely cover all the sales. When the smoke clears, the manager transfers the bitcoins and extra cash back to the now banker, with the exception of keeping exactly one bitcoin as a gift. The banker will have at the end of whole thing exactly equivalent to what he started with minus one bitcoin, the cost of his meal plus tip, if applicable, and his time. The restaurant owner will have the exact dollar amount for all the purchases plus an extra bitcoin. The patrons all used bitcoins for there purchases, thus they, and the shop owner, have experienced Bitcoin firsthand. Some of the patrons may choose to keep the extras coins on their smartphones, oppose to cashing out at the end of the Cash Mob event.

That's it! The next thing you'll read is my sig.

Are there enough of us to have a bitcoin mob? Cheesy Everyone show up and offer enough money to a business in the form of bitcoins that they'll be forced to start accepting it.

As I've stated above, you don't necessary need a critical mass of bitcoiners. Just a critical mass of Cash Mobbers willing to do exactly what they plan to do in the first place, but with a bitcoiner/banker acting as the liaison between them and the restaurant owner/manager (example).

During the interim, a few converts will emerge, thus spreading awareness.
