Since all the Cas crew is here, anyone ever seen a 5BTC graded at MS-67 or higher?

I was expecting my 5BTC coins to grade no less than MS-66 but they came out to be MS-65, MS-64.
That got me reallyyy disappointed because they just look so good ungraded.

That could be quite likely, or if not then at least a www.ha.com auction catalog dedicated to the collection's sale in quite a few years time.

We really need to all come together and just establish a set price for these coins and then each take turns when someone decides to sell.

I would imagine Otoh and Goat probably have the most extensive Casascius Collections.
Would be pretty cool to see the demand reach high enough numismatically for an ha.com auction for them!

After much suspense and a personal invitation from justbtcme, I have arrived to share my wisdom or wise-cracks with you all.

I kid of course, I think you must only like that I tried to offer escrow services as a Newbie with zero trust.

As a wise ass I'll say - so much eager bidding without pictures? Grading helps but purchases made sight unseen are risky business!

As a wise man I'll say - the 5 BTC coins (regardless of series) are equally rare, sub 500 and the 10 BTC coins are even MORE rare. I see the error 5 BTC coin is going being bid up to about BTC8.50. This represents a greater premium (for the same error) than what the 2011 error coins go for and this 5 BTC error coin is significantly more rare! Someone might get a real steal or their might be a lot of bidding left to be done on this one. The 2011 errors were going for BTC3, no? That represents a 5x multiple (or BTC2.5 premium) over the face value of the coin in US. No I don't think the same premium multiple should apply just because the coin has greater face value (BTC5 vs BTC1) but this 5 BTC error coin IS 10x more rare (500 mintage vs. 5000 mintage for the 2011 error). Maybe the 5 BTC error coin deserves a 10x higher premium because it's 10x more rare? If you agree with my logic that would put the value of this coin at BTC30 (and it's currently bid up to BTC8.50!) My math is taking the BTC2.5 premium for the 2011 error, times 10 to account for the scarcity plus the face value of BTC5.

For me however, they're too rich of an acquisition. Don't worry, I'm sure with my recent participation in a signature campaign and my barely member status I'll be able to save up enough virtual coin to make me an honest buyer soon. (I don't want to pull a Clark Griswold justifying a big purchase with the promise of some bonus from work that never comes!)

How many of the "Casascius Crew" have these coins in their collection already?  And can the OP share some pictures? The bling always helps bring more buyers to the table.

I look forward to seeing what they go for AND if anyone thinks my logic on valuation is crazy.

P.S. if escrow services are needed I'll stake my reputation on this forum for that first opportunity - for tips only, of course.

I am waiting for possum to post...then the whole bid on every Casascius item crew will be here!

LOL!!!! Possum will surely come just a matter of time.

ha that guy spams every cas coin thread, has he ever bought one?

Just saw this, thought it deserved a dedicated response. I've purchased 3 Cas coins in the last month - one 2011 BTC1 series 2, one 2013 BTC0.10 silver, and one 2013 BTC1 silver and gold. I purchased them all through eBay because I was able to find (what I think) are slightly better deals there.

Nosterp, this is the first time I've seen you post on a Casascius thread, are you mostly just a spectator?

Not yet. I'll probably be able to send all three in in September some time. I've been a bit too busy to make it a priority.

When I do get them graded, I'll be sure share the outcomes with the Crew.

Also, I could easily just send pictures to anyone who's interested. The two silvers I have are near perfect. The 2011 looks great but isn't perfect - It's definitely MS but might not get 65 or higher. Maybe I'm just being critical about them, the brass coins tarnish and get patina whereas the silvers do not.
