Okay I have tempered, and lowered the clocks very slowly, Btw the longer you run the hard ware the lower the voltage can go. After one year my Cpu was able to undervolt from 1.45>1.1875 Stable. Where it used to not be stable at 1.35 or so. Its interesting.
7970 Stable Clocks --------------------- 1180 Core Clock, 700 Mhash, Msi after burner: 1174 -> 1156 MV -> Gpu-Z sensor: VDDC 1.04 Volts (Any lower Crashes) 1100 Core Clock, 650 Mhash, Msi after burner: 1174 -> 1068 MV -> Gpu-Z sensor: VDDC 0.988 Volts (Any lower Crashes) 1025 Core Clock, 600 Mhash Msi after burner: 1174 -> 1024 MV -> Gpu-Z Sensor: VDDC 0.949 Volts (Any lower Crashes)
Seems like a diminishing return curve, around Core 1100, I yield the most mhash to least power/voltage. 1180 being least efficient, lower then 1100 being less efficient.

Now going to push my card as high as it goes in core clock before crash. Lucky the new drivers just make it not respond and I don't have to restart computer really nice for over clocking.
Btw over clocking isn't what is dangerous, its overvolting that is. So If I yeilded 1154 MV from 1174 MV at 1180, at stock 1174 MV I should get around 1200 +

at 1230, it crashes within 5 seconds at 1225, it crashes within 45 seconds at 1220, it crashes within 2 mins with strange artifacts at 1215, Currently running haven't crashed yet (Updated Just crashed) at 1210, Trying now (crashed 10 mins) at 1205, (crashed 10 mins) at 1200 (20mins)
Threw the clock to 1190, hopefully it will be stable 24/7 at this when I go to sleep.

So you are testing stability with mining? Which drivers cause PC to just crash and not shut off?

Is there any software compiled for Linux that can allow me to under volt reference 7970 cards?

my .2 bitcents... stop trying to put gpus into warp drive...
also, the topic is undervolting.. at stock volts and 1100 clock my rigs(5x7970) pulls 1440 watts at the wall. at 930/300/.937 it pulls 835 watts... huge difference

huge difference for an extra 750Mhash :p As much as I like my OC and squeezing every last hash out of my cards, there is a case for downclocking. Adding an extra 600W for 750MH/s is quite inefficient...

Yes I agree, I think it's best to push for best Mhash/W optimum profits, rather than just trying to get the most Mhash.

AMDoverdrive ?! It is on my queue to undervolt my 7970 under Ubuntu Linux 64 bits / Catalyst 12.6 / CGMiner 2.6.4... If anyone already does that, please, share it! Cheers! Thiago

Is ADL able to undervolt in Linux? I think CGMINER uses ADL, and it doesn't work for me in Linux. What works for me is flashing a 7950 BIOS to a 7970 card. Reduces the voltage to 1.03V or so. I would be very interested in the undervolting results using amdovdrvctrl on Tahiti chips.

Are you running all 7970's? What drivers and setup are you using to get windows to recognise all 5 GPU's? Are you using XP/Vista/Windows 7? 32bit or 64bit? I cant for the life of me get more than 4 gpus going at once.
