Instead of waiting for people to apply, you may want to check https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=276897.0 for a list of experienced and highly trusted escrows.

Asking people publically for escrows is always a bad idea as you will more often than not get some unsavoury characters trying to "hold" on to your money for you. Like the above said, choose one from the list above.

True.  Most of the escrows are just starting out, they want to gain reputation.  I wouldn't trust most of the people that recommend their escrow services (there are some exceptions though, like devthedev).
That list is somewhat outdated, though :-/

I can understand people wanting to start out and get their name out there as 'trustable' but it can often have negative impact on you if you don't become one the long and hard way. If you're too new or a unfamiliar face the eagerness to hold on to other peoples money can seem pretty shady even if you've handled a few smaller trades before. Being an escrow takes time to build up rep and that's the way it should be. Always look for evidence of many previous trades. IF they've held on to many trades before and for big amounts they're not likely to run off with your 0.05btc.

Just ask some trusted escrows like escrow.ms sending them a personal message.
